I am new to pool, I have recently purchased a 7FT 8 Ball Pool table (English Table) I am looking for a cue that isn't really expensive like 500 pounds but something that looks good and will last.

Are you in the UK?

What game are you planning on playing? - if UK 8 ball, any snooker cue that floats your boat will do. Mick Hill plays with one that cost 20 quid from Argos, apparently.

Yes I am from the UK, I would rather have a cue dedicated to 8/9 ball, I will be playing 8 ball :)

I am a beginner so it wont make much difference anyway but I would prefer to have a cue that will suit me as I get better and better :)

Ok, but you really have to define what game you're playing - English 8 ball or American 8 ball. There's a BIG difference and you can't use the same cue for both.

How could you shoot with a 500 pound cue stick, you will need a trailer to carry it or a pickup truck!!! Just kidding. Try to buy a nice sneaky Pete, you will love it. It looks like a house cue. And will fool most of your friends if it is made well. Steve Lomax in Atlanta, Georgia makes great Sneaky Pete cues. Their are several other good cue makers in the USA. Let me know if you need his number? Good luck!

Sorry, English 8 Ball :)

Right - you're in the wrong place then - this site is for American pool, with BIG balls and BIG cues - you just need a snooker cue, around 9-10mm at the tip. These are ten a penny on ebay, but you're taking a risk there as you can't try them in advance. That said, I've had some terrific bargains from there, although some complete turkeys as well lol.

John Parrish is the number one cue maker around, and you'll pay for it because they are top quality. If you want to spend £500 on a cue, he's the man. They'll hold their value should you want to change in due course. Let me know if you want one as I have a mate who's selling his - it's hardly used, mint condition, just too heavy for him, is all.

I suggest going to your local pool hall on a league night and asking around - someone's bound to have a cue for sale, and that way you can test them. Whatever you do, don't buy a new one from Rileys or JJB, and i'd suggest getting an older one if possible, as the new ones they knock out today in the £30-60 bracket are usually complete rubbish.

You need to ask this question in a UK snooker or pool site.

TheThaiger is right, you need a small diameter tipped cue to play englich 8-ball well. You are looking for a top quality snooker cue and looking for a top end snooker cue in America instead of the UK would be going the wrong way. There has to be places in the UK you can see alot of snooker cues for sale, local snooker clubs and the like. If you MUST ask this forum then the snooker section will at least have more people with some knowledge about it.
