I'd like to introduce myself to begin with....I started playing in an APA league last fall. I would occasionally go to a couple of local bars and shoot pool when my wife had something planned (that didn't include me) during the evening. On Thursdays she attends a women's bible study night at the church, and I gladly run straight to the golf course after work :) Well, I live in IL, and golf isn't a year 'round thing here. So, once the daylight gets shorter, or God forbid there is a buncha that white stuff on the ground...I hafta find something else to do. One nasty (weather-wise) Thurs. I went to a local bar to shoot some pool. It was "league-night"...2 tables - 1 league - 1 practice. I put my quarters up on the practice table, and watched and waited. I could see the competition was way outta my league, but what the heck. After a few games the visiting team asked if I played for the bar we were at. After I said no, the next question was..."wanna play for us?" They were short one, so I figured they meant tonight. I know this is kinda rambling, but hang in there....I played every week after that! It was alot of fun, and I'll be playing in more leagues (BTW, other teams asked me if I was available for other nights all the time).

After lurking on this board here a bit, I can see that there is a wealth of info here, and I would certainly like to tap into that from time to time :) I gotta ton of questions! Thanks for letting me ramble about how I've stumbled into this game, and I promise future posts won't be as awkward :)

BTW, if you are wondering what lead me to this site...I was looking for info on cues. I happen to be a BIG TIME golf equipment HO!!!! Hopefully, pool cues will be to a much lesser degree :)

Welcome to the 'hood, TrustyRusty, nice to have you here. Don't be shy about asking questions.

Welcome TR ! There's many tonnes of answers around here, and some are even worthwhile, so ask away.

I frequent a couple of golf forums, so I hear ya on the 'some are even worthwhile'. But, when you find a gem...

I am a VERY competitive person (always have been), and I have a feeling this game could sink its teeth into me for that very reason. I doubt that I'll spend as much time on it as I do w/golf, but I need a winter outlet (other than the occasional 40 degree round with too many layers of clothes on :) ), and pool could surely fill that bill.

As far as the forum goes, I love picking others brains for opinions on nearly EVERY subject.
