New case against smoking

My profession as a personal trainer has led me in many directions to being up -dated in the field. Playing in smoke filled rooms was never a problem in the past, though now it's much more noticeable. There have been many threads on this subject and this one is not to beat a dead horse but to share my story.
I have a custom Jim Murnak case. I noticed that it was stained by small drops of either rain or who knows what. So, I contacted a friend in town (Leather Medic ) to see what could be done ,maybe re-stain. To make this short, he told me that the cigarette smoke was the problem and that it was actually causing damage to my case. I was lucky he was able to take care of it. But, now my case against smoking is personal. The idea that the personal freedom and lack of laws limit us that prefer clean air , we literally have to just suck it up. For all, you poor addicted souls I can only imagine what it's causing inside you. If I offended anyone ...tough ! I'm offended too. I hope this helps in some way and if not maybe the idea that something you cherish can be destroyed by cigarette smoke not to mention yourselves. ... never mind ,beating a dead horse or maybe just a dying one.

WOW! THis has got to be the first. LOL Basically, screw what second hand smoke does to my lungs, and, that I may die of lung cancer because someone just cannot go outside to smoke. But, if it is my cue case that suffers from this -- it is personal now. I think, healthy lungs should be worth more than a Murnak case. But, whatever gets them to quit...

I am happy that city gov. banned smoking indoors in NY. Now my cue cases are safe. :D

It's been 14 mo and 3 days since my last cig and I'm still coughing stuff up on some mornings. I can't imagine what my case is goin through...

My poor, poor case

I smoke. But now that Colorado is smoke free indoors I smoke a lot less when I play pool. Also smoke a lot less at work.
I am glad your case is clean now but your lungs are not.

hehehe. I think Eddie was making a tongue-in-cheek post, while giving another reason for people to quit smoking.

What a lot of people don't know is that MOST all lung diseases caused by smoking cannot be repaired!

If you think about that for a minute or two, it might give someone the motivation to quit one more time.

The fact that second hand smoke is deadly for those around it and cue cases can be damaged by smoke is icing on the funeral cake.

Thank you Joey , you are right about me. I am concerned not just for my lungs and my case but also what seems nobody talks about, the affect it has on the one one thing pool players use..the eyes.

I hope I can go to the Kabob place for lunch today. I like the hot sauce with the chicken and the garlic paste. Not too spicy, but hints at a real kick. It is especially good with a fork-full of rice. They have a really good salad dressing too, I think they put crack in it because if I don't have it regularly, I really start to crave it. Like the past weekend, I took Friday off and went to Durham, NC for a cousin's wedding and I last had the dressing a week ago and I really need it. I am hungry! Did anyone ever read 'Naked Lunch' by W.S. Burroughs? That was weird, especially the part where he wrote the story and then re-spliced all the sentences. I wonder how it would've read it it's original order. Probably wasn't coherent, the cause for the shuffle. I wish Bruce would shuffle away from his keyboard for a lifetime or so. I also like the tofu pad thai but is is like $12 for lunch there and so crowded that I can barely get there and back in the hour I have for lunch. But it really is tasty with lime all over it. Wonder what Corvette is having for lunch today.
Thanks for sharing!

For about 15 year I worked as a Respiratory Therapist until I burned out on, and saw many times the effect of Smoking, Exposure to Second Hand Smoke, Exposure to Asbestos, Exposure to Dirty Air, and last Exposure to Industrial Chemicals, and Toxic Substances.

IMHO Smoking is just one way to screw up you life. But Smoking is just the tip of the ICE BURG so to say. If you live in Los Angeles, or Phoenix, or other dirty cities you are risking LUNG PROBLEMS by just going outside and taking a DEEP BREATH.

The one thing I will recall about LUNG DAMAGE is LUNGS like a Broken Bone don't repair it self, so you ned to protect your LUNGS.

Funny thing is many Health Care Providers Smoke, and they know the problem associated with SMOKING! FYI.

...he told me that the cigarette smoke was the problem and that it was actually causing damage to my case.

Just because your friend (Leather Medic) said it was cigarette smoke that caused the damage, doesn't make it true. I don't know how second hand smoke can make "drops" on leather. This sounds very unlikely to me. "Drops" are made by liquids.

That being said, I thoroughly expect anyone and everyone who complains about second hand smoke to not drive any vehicle that burns gas. That pollutes the my clear air and contributes to smog and acid rain. I also expect those people to not buy or have any products that must be delivered by a gas burning vehicle. Furthermore, all complainers should not work in any industry or purchase any product from any factory that burns fossil fuels.

Now if you want to complain, please don't be a hypocrite and realize you too are affecting the quality of my air.

P.S. I don't smoke.

And just because you believe it doesn't , does not make it less true. The rest of what you are saying is just ignorance.. If one person can affect someones air it's probably because they are cutting off the supply.

Also , maybe you should read slower or not be so fast to respond. I never said nor he that the drops were caused by cigarette smoke , but that it was damaging the case. I stated that it was rain drops or who knows what. Liquid is liquid. Though like people are all of flesh and blood. We do not all mix together , like water and oil..liquid, but don't mix. I will try to stay out of your air space.

And just because you believe it doesn't , does not make it less true.

You are correct sir. What I said doesn't make it less true, but the burden of proof lies in your court. Now prove how smoke can create drops.

The rest of what you are saying is just ignorance.. If one person can affect someones air it's probably because they are cutting off the supply.

Yes, what I said was totally exaggerated and over the top. It was intended to expose the craziness of blaming the damage of your case on second hand smoke. Too many people won't take responsibility for anything these days and just want to blame someone else for their problems. (i.e. smokers ruined your case)

On a nicer note Eddie, post us a pic of your Murnak case. We would like to see it.

Our fair city just recently passed a referendum vote prohibiting smoking in all public places, which includes the poohall where I play One Pocket. This was about three weeks after my third stent was installed.
Better late than never, I suppose. :)

First off your leather expert doesn't know to much about his trade! Also their is no scientific data linking second hand smoke to lung disease. Now you might say oh wrong what about people who worked were smoking was happening over a long period of time (20 yrs etc) well you can say that about car emmisions, smoke stack fumes, etc! California did the most extensive second hand smoke research and found that second hand smoke in a ventilated room over a short period of time did no harm to the people in the room. Also the gov't study by the surgeon general in 1995 was dismissed for lack of scientific proof!!

Would you be so kind as to provide this documentation for us to look at? I don't think there are very many here who are just going to take your word for it.

One more time...I NEVER said smoke created the drops. For your education I will explain. Leather Medic said the smoke caused the original stain damage. Cleaning the nicotine residue and the saturation of it was the problem that lead to the weak resistance to the drops.. I blame no one for things I create. If I created a problem with your sensitive nature I am sorry.

Think of smoke the same way you would think of dye - once it gets into fabric, it is difficult to remove.

I had received a Huebler U.S, Open cue - a really nice cue - in a beautiful Huebler leather case that had been in too many cigar rooms. The case was like-new but reeked of cigar smoke. I kept the cue for 4 or 5 years and cleaned it, and was able to remove the odor from the cue. The case, however, still smelled like smoke and in fact if you put it in a room, the room soon smelled like cigar smoke.

The case was in perfect condition otherwise. I sold the cue and when I went to inspect it, I remembered the cigar smell. I told the buyer about it and we both tried various chemicals, etc. but the smoke smell just wouldn't budge.

I ended up refunding him for the value of the case. Basically, the case was ruined. Bear in mind the case was kept in a smoke free environment for at least the 5 years I owned it and the smell was reduced, but still unacceptably bad.

I guess you are a leather expert, so maybe you can enlighten us minions. You don't need or want proof..you are probably an expert there too.
