New Case Design - what do you think?

Mr. John Barton,

Have you been entering my dreams like Leo DiCaprio in that new fangled movie of his; Inception?

I had an idea for removable sleeves mounted on a board for a butterfly case. You would remove and add boards like a looseleaf binder. With these removable sleeves, I can see this stretch out to a system of matching cases, 4x8, 3x6, 2x4, and 1x2 hard shells with choices of leather tooled or vinyl covering (like your zipper idea).

looks pretty, is it a heavy case though? and do you ship this lovely case to Kuwait? Thanks.

This particular case is 5lbs empty. We can make it a bit lighter by choosing a lighter weight leather.

We can ship to Kuwait.

Think this idea would be great in like an 8 x 16 Storage Case, were 2 Butt & 4 Shaft could be pulled up at a time! JMHO...

Well they say that we all share a consciousness. :-)

Actually this idea kind of got rekindled with me when I started doing the butterfly cases again. Those have removable boards which velcro in similar to a looseleaf binder. We did two 8x16 cases fr Mike Stacey as an example.

I did some replacement boards for an AZer's Instroke and he asked for two extra so I did a bag for each one of those. Then as a lark I put one of them in a tube and saw that it worked decently. And here we are.

This has been on my mind for a long time. I am a big fan of flexibility and the ability to configure something to your particular needs. I get so many requests for special configurations and it's difficult to keep up with them all. Plus I see trends like people getting longer cues, long pins, rubber grips, extensions, longer jump cue handles etc... So I hope I can figure out something that works well, is easy to use, and looks good.

I actually had another idea for how to do a replacement interior that's fixed like our current ones. I will try that one tomorrow.

So at the end of the day hopefully JB Cases will offer many interior choices and all of them will be interchangeable. You can have as much or as little flexibility and padding as you wish.

It would be awesome if you could replace them, I would like to have it done.

I don't mean replacing interiors on existing cases. That can be done on most brands but it's not always easy or worth it to do so.

I meant that I have an idea for building the interiors on our cases so that they are easy to change. For all new cases going forward.

i want a color like this..in a 2x4
one pocket only.. let me know..

it takes to much time to stay at my top speed
for the money thats in pool.
im not saying ill never play but i never liked the tourney trail.
i dont get a lot of action so its tough.

I understand what you mean. And with the internet notoriety you've received, anyone you'd try to match up with will expect you to play at "top speed" and want weight accordingly! I watched my old buddy Joey Spaeth, Gary's dad, struggle with a similar situation even before the internet, when he was aging and unable to play at the speed he once did. People still wanted the same spots that he just couldn't give up anymore! Same with Danny D. He's 75 years old and still has a wealth of knowledge, but he can't consistently play like he used to, but still people try to ask him for ridiculous spots, so he just had to quit gambling altogether.

Many years ago, Myself, Gary, Earl, David Howard, Chris MacDonald and a few other pool players were swapping stories in the motel room after a tournament was winding down, talking about how tough it was to stay afloat "on the road". David had a one liner I've never forgotten. He said, "Yeah this game of pool is really tough, BUT somebodies got to do it!"

i like to play.
there just are not many gamblers left.
sad but true.
i get more action in a week playing golf then i would get all year playing pool.
not to mention poker.

Is that a cloth padding for the shafts? dies it remove easily?

Yes it is. Yes it does. The shafts and butt are fully encased in soft cloth. The whole sleeve is removable and easily cleaned using a steam cleaner and fresh air/sunlight to dry it.

John, make a quick memo. MULLY wants his case with the regular interior.

I don't think I'm up for the interchangeable sleeves just yet. I only have 6 cues so it's simple enough for me to just take one out of one case and put it in another.

This is a great idea. I hate tubes in my Murnak case. So bulky, heavy and don't seem as protective as something like this. But the fact that you can mix up the setup is perfect. Pretty sweet.

:-) Ok and the interior color you want is pink right? Wrote it down, and what shade of pink should that be?

Can you use the interior for a cue butt extension?

Yes, the beauty here is that these sleeves can be made to accommodate anything. OR if you have something like an extension or a bridge stick that won't fit in a sleeve you have then you can just put it in without a sleeve and it's equally protected. Esseentially you have a padded container which you can fill up according to your needs now and change it later if your needs change.

Then you have to pull out the whole sleeve before removing the shaft? I'm wondering if simply pulling out the shaft while leaving the sleeve in the case will tend to collapse the sleeve and ultimately require you to pull out the sleeve all the time. I thought maybe a neoprene sleeve at least holds it's shape?
