Has anyone been to Tom Karabatsos's new pool room in Elgin, IL? We saw it from the outside one day, and it looked really nice. I heard it is gorgeous on the inside. The deck on the lake is amazing. There is a "high class" chef who works there too for the steak house. I can not remember the name of the new room, but I think it just opened within this past week.

DMGwalsh, Erik Lee, some other buddies and myself were there on Saturday for the 14.1 qualifier. It's called On-Q club and yes it's in Elgin. It's a really beautiful multi-million dollar building with a classy restaurant and a private room downstairs. Upstairs has 8 ProAm 9' Diamonds, a bar, dancefloor and a deck I believe. I don't think the room is open to the public yet, and I think I heard Tom K say it would be sometime in early July. The place is absolutely gorgeous and will be a PRIME location for tournaments, league nights and private parties. There is no lack of open space in the pool hall and you really feel like you're playing in a pro tournament. The one thing that jumps at you is how high the ceilings are --- although it's a 2 storeyed building it looks like it could be 3. The windows are also really large and I think I saw blinds or tints so that the sun won't get in your way too much. Table lighting was more than adequate. I remember people like Wendell Weir, Larry Schwartz, Tom Collins, and George Fels stopping by.

DMGwalsh should chime in; he'll give a more thorough review. I was busy watching Tom K wipe the floor with his opponents.

Maaaaaaaaan I'm jealous. I used to live in Dundee, 10 minutes north of Elgin. That is the place to be for pool. That's the second pool room (that I know of) that's opened up in the last year. The other one is all bar tables two doors down from where I used to work, but I've only seen it from the outside.

I used to work for tom so I drove up to see it and the only thing I can say, is MIND BLOWING!!!!

Hey Ray,
Dont forget about the gorgeous waitresses that were there.. You were too busy gawking at them rather than watching Tom K played. BTW, on the way out, I saw a few more tables in a room next to the dining area. Very nice and classy place. Heard it cost about $6.5mil...

Tom gave us a call to come and see it. It is one of the nicest in the area, but that is how Tom always does things....

Haha yea I was trying hard to not harp on that, just so that people would go there because of the pool and food, not cos of the women. But yes, all 10(?) of the waitresses were drop-dead gorgeous =)

Yea the small room next to the dining area is supposed to be a private room I think.

Wow, $6.5M?!?! I thought the pool scene was getting a little slow in Chicago but I guess not. This is probably one of those things that "If you have to ask...", but what is table time going to be?

Do you know all of the results of Tommy's tournament? He told me he was pleased with the turn-out for a place that wasn't really open.

Tom came in first and Mark Snodgrass of Ohio came in second so they both qualified.

Jeff Mohl and Mike Corbett were probably 3rd and 4th.

There were 13 players and quite a few spectators.

The venue was first class. Construction was not quite complete on the place. The waterfall wasn't even in yet. I think the main focus of the place will be on the restaurant. Good looking menu, white tablecloth, beautiful room with a nice view.

The upstairs houses the 8 pool tables and again I think the revenue has to come from something other than pool. It has a night club feel to it with a big dance floor.

Since the place was not open yet, the food was "limited" to a buffett, but the buffett was excellent. Even though the place was just open for the pool tournament, he seemed to have quite a full staff and plenty of food laid out for us.

Very nice event.

I was thinking the same thing.....when we were there he was charging people $5 per hour but that's hardly going to be the rate when they open. With a building that expensive I'm sure the table time will be hefty to just breakeven in the short run....although if he can keep the price low he could have the masses flocking to Elgin.

Has Tom's new room opened officially yet? Does anyone know?

It will be open next week.. He has like 40 people working on the place every day trying to get the place open..
