Championship Tour Edition or Pro-Am. I would still try to talk him in to getting Simonis. You are spending more for the labor for your installer to recover the table then you are for the cost of the cloth. You’re talking about a difference of less than $100 to get the best - Simonis 860 HR, as opposed to a lesser quality worsted cloth. For a cloth like Andy or Granito, the price difference below Simonis is even less - likely no more than $50.A buddy is looking to recover his 9' GC with something less expensive than Simonis, but still good quality.
What do y'all suggest?
Sorry if this has been covered before...I couldn't find a dedicated thread with the search function.
Thanks,
Lou

If he’s experienced in re-covering and re-leveling tables as he should be if he’s doing the job himself, he well knows the difference in the quality of these cloths. Just seems strange to me your buddy is not doing the research himself. If he’s looking to save $ by doing the job himself, then he might as well go ahead and save more $ by buying a lesser priced cloth. Thanks Chris,
How would you describe the difference in quality anyway?
I think he's going to do the labor himself, and he would be pretty happy to save $100.
Thanks for the info guys.If he’s experienced in re-covering and re-leveling tables as he should be if he’s doing the job himself, he well knows the difference in the quality of these cloths. He’s apparently more interested in getting new cloth on his table for as little $ as possible as opposed to having his table set up and playing as well as it possibly can, which is unfortunate particularly if it’s a Gold Crown. Just my unfiltered opinion.
While there are several choices for cloth - at this point I would remind everyone "you get what you pay for" and as one of my grandfathers would always say "i have never had to apologize for buying the very best" . . . If you goal is to enjoy the game and get better then the price should not be the deciding factor - IMO.

Easy solution - he needs to invest in a table cover to keep on the table when he is not playing. Thanks for the info guys.
His means are limited, and he wants to know what options are out there. His English is poor, so he asked me to check in with the experts on here. Another thing is that his table is in his basement workshop...which stays pretty dirty...so expensive cloth might be a waste of money since it's going to get dirty.
I know that Fast Eddies on the south east side of Houston uses/or used Championship cloth...which I have played hundreds of hours on. I think it plays just fine, and lasts up to a few years on tables that get a lot of use....but I'm no expert.
Looking forward to more testimonies.![]()
I share your opinion, but I guess everyone doesn’t value their pool and the pool table they play on the way some of us do. I also understand that some have priorities and may not be able to $ afford the best cloth and the best installer to do the job.I might be alone on this but when it comes to my table the best is all that will do.
The feeling of "I should have" after paying a little less never sat right with me.
The wrong cloth at the right price is never a good deal in my mind.
Define 'best'. This reminds me of how PING sells golf clubs. For years they were THE highest priced clubs short of full-custom. They had a huge ad budget that made them very visible. Pretty soon a LOT of players thought they were the best. Sure they make a fine product but they aren't any better than Titleist, Taylor, Mizuno, etc. I remember when Simonis came back on the scene. They were the only company pushing worsted and soon they were touted as the best. How does one actually define that? Have independent side-by-side tests been done with all the worsted makers? Since you mentioned installer i'll say the same about them. WHO is the best? Should we have an installer Olympics to find out?BTW, there are more poolrooms in Taiwan/China than anywhere else on the planet. I'd bet pretty good that very few use Simonis cloth. Are these players getting short-changed somehow? Every time i watch a stream from Asia all i see is ANDY and CPBA cloth being used. If spending the most $ makes you sleep better then by all means go for it.I share your opinion, but I guess everyone doesn’t value their pool and the pool table they play on the way some of us do. If you do your homework, then you should be able to make your decision with confidence regarding the cloth you choose and the installer you choose to do the work. There will always be a range of opinions on both, so you have to come to the decision that you are most comfortable with for yourself, as you are the one that is going to have to pay $ for it and live with it.Define 'best'. Can happen to any worsted. I've seen brand new 860 get a hole in it from a simple jump shot. I play two/three days a week on a GC that has almost 2yr old ANDY on it and other than a few burn spots it still looks/plays great. Don't have to blow big $$ to get good cloth. Now there is a room I go to in Atlanta, they have a cloth that I think is Korean or Vietnamese. (The room is half carom half pool). It’s fast like simonis, and plays close to it. But it gets holes in it almost immediately. So there probably are worsted cloths that are crappy too.
