New cue design

I am tinkering with some stuff for a new cue. Who would you recommend to use silver inlays? I see some Zinzola ones, who else would be good? My design might be utilizing silver, ivory, with cocobolo...but is in design phase still. Cuemakers welcome to post or pm who you would recommend...

Edit...I will be also maybe looking at fancy or unique ring designs to go with it. Once again this is still in design phase.

Budget $2K or less

Thanks

It depends greatly on your budget...

For (what I think are) the best silver inlay and engraving, I would have to suggest Bill Schick. You will of course wait a while, and pay a lot for the privilege.

Many other makers are doing more with silver now, but he is the first one I saw over 10 years ago and it was killer back then...

Good question, I forgot to include that and will edit my original post.

MAYBE Paul Drexler?

I'm not sure, but I think he might be able to do a merry widow with some simple silver work under 2G.

I am really not that 'up' on who's doing silver work, as I am not a huge fan of it myself.

I'll step back and see who else is mentioned...

Thanks for the input, silver is not required but just interested in having a unique cue made.

These two Bender cues I think look amazing....they are 4+K so I would have to sigh...tone it down, but you can get the picture. They are unique, have fancy rings, and very nice flow through the whole cue.

Another good cuemaker that utilizes silver a lot would be Jerry Olivier.

Based on those cue examples, you should be able to get just about any maker to suit your needs.

I thought you were looking for silver wire inlay (like vines etc.) around the cue and/or other engraved silver work.

Ring work (with Sterling, or nickle-silver) should not be a problem.

I do that type of work myself!

Silver inlays??? Jerry McWorter..... I don't know if he has anything in that price range though, but for silver inlays he is one of the best for sure. He has a few hanging that are absolutely fantastic, but I believe they are out of your price range. I'm not sure how much this one is, but you could always call him or pm me and I can put you in touch with him.

Gotcha...I have heard that nickle-silver is more prone to raise on the cue above the finish over time, does this sound accurate? I will get back to the drawing board on my cue and maybe post a drawing here and see what shakes out. Thanks again for the reply. If I can get something similar to these two cues listed for 2K I will be more then happy (minus the scrimshaw of course).

Well, Nickle-Silver (which is mainly nickle) is actually less likely to expand, since Silver has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion (but I didn't actually look it up).

However, Nickle-Silver is much harder material; Sterling is easier to work with in that regard.

It is all about technique, with all else being equal I would have to say.

Any reputable cue maker can do silver rings for you similar to what you posted- it is not uncommon at all.

Scott Gracio did a beautiful box cue for me,i recomend him without reservation,as far as your budget restrictions you would need to call him,i found him to be a great person to work with, you might have seen the cue he made for rsmith and all the extras Scott gave him,I talked to smith, and was amazed to hear he paid double voluntarily.

You don't hear that often, makes you wonder why.

i recomend you call and find out if he will do the work

Thanks Dean. I have seen some of Scott's work and it is very nice. I am interested in something similar to the two Bender's I posted, but have to keep it within the budget I listed and am still messing with a design. I might have to give him a ring :). Thanks for the post.

Zinzola's inlay work is great & improving in leaps & bounds besides.. Ariel Carmeli is another that does nice inlay work with silver.
Besides budget, lead time is something you have take into account.

Just curious why silver? The value of the silver in the cue as inlays may be like a few dollars so it doesn't really all any true value to the cue. Also, once the silver is in the cue you can't tell what it is, it could be polishes aluminum. I just don't see the enhancement myself. Same with the nickel silver rings that are worth nothing in reality but people try to put some kind of intrinsic value to them, when in reality they are just problematic.

I have actually decided against using silver...was an impulse idea. Thanks for the post. I am going to talk to Scott early next week and try to put together something unique and sharp. Time to get the thinking cap on this weekend.
