New Cue smell???

Okay, so I've been playing with my brand spanking new Josey cue for the last few weeks. Love every minute of it, and I can't imagine shooting with anything else.

However...

How long will it take for the "new cue" smell to dissipate? Anything I can do to help decrease the odor? Specifically, the finish smell. It's not overbearing, but very noticeable especially on certain shots (like using bridge and having it near my nose).

This is only the second custom cue I've owned that came directly from the builder (last one was a Madison Bob), and I remember noticing the same problem.

Any advice?
 
Just wanted to follow up about this. Tried everything I could think of and the suggestions that were mentioned. However, what did the trick was placing a scented dryer sheet in my case. After a few days, the smell was gone. Plus, it works well with b urnishing the shaft.
 
I wonder if this is the same as the 'new' car smell, where the resin/plastics are still drying. If so, check your auto store or the counter of you local car wash for a bottle of new car scent.
 
I must admit I didn't know this could happen since I never experienced anything like this with a cue.
Does it become a distraction over the course of a match? Are there times during your match the odor will vary?

Personally, I'd find it bothersome since even a small nick to a cue shaft during the match distracts me and so
when that happens, I just change shafts. But with this smell, I imagine you really can't escape it like with changing shafts.

You burnish your shaft with a scented dryer sheet? Aren't there chemicals in those things? Did your shaft smell like a dryer sheet for a while?

The sheet was used, so most of the chemical smell was off. It's softer after the use, but still did a great job of absorbing the odors.

And yes, I do burnish the shaft with it, but besides doing a great job of removing sticky residue, I haven't noticed any other effects to the shaft.
 
Keith built my cue in 2007...I bought it new. I honestly can't remember any "new cue smell".

It still plays awfully nice, despite me having given it a battle scar. I figure it is saving money for me. I don't look for another cue now.

Very nice...I'm lousy at posting pics...mine is linen wrapped, 4 very sharp tradional points with veneers, ebony (?) butt piece...MOP fleurs in the black butt cap. I'll try to post a close-up...

Like I said, no need for me to explore other cues. :)

Best and likely the fastest way to get rid of that smell..........Drum ROLLLLL....leave it next to a table ALONE go pee......WALA smell gone
