Chill out Rich. You are supposed to be praying not judging. Not real Christian of you.

6 Horsemen? Like of the apocalypse?

I see it a little different. But first, chuck, great case. LMK regarding the new inserts.

I think the case world does need JB. Here is why. First, the JB rugged created a paradigm shift in the case market. Everything from $100-$400 is now irrelevant and will soon go the way of the $500 per trade broker.

Secondly, despite the debate (and I can't believe there is one) JBs cases do offer better protection. Eventually this will move the needle so much that the economics of it will make it near impossible for a case maker to be profitable. The cost and revenue required will not come from a market that has been overshadowed by the JB case. Jack may be the sole expectation.

I told Chuck I would order a case from him when he gets JB interiors. The case world would do well to work with JB and use his interiors or risk losing enough market share to where it simply isn't worth it.

If JB found a cost efficient way to market to pool players not on AZ the inevitable will occur much faster.

Yeah, maybe JB doesn't go about handling this right or let's anything go for that matter, but he also has to deal with an equal amount of attacks and he has every right to feel like he needs to defend himself and product.

Just my 2 cents

Wow thanks for the heads up, I'll start looking for a new job tomorrow since JB is going to put us USA case makers all out of business. Thank you for the great advice sir, I'll take it to heart!

Great looking case Chuck, really clean work with great attention to the details.

Rusty you and Chuck wouldn't have to worry if you could hire 15 workers at 1.50 and hour. It's not who you are, it is where you are, or at least what you can take advantage of, or who.

Nicest case I think you've made. Its nice to be able to make something and sign it as your own... This means there is not only pride in ownership by the buyer, but by the maker.

JV
Thank you!

I think that is very true, well said.
Thanks!

Another great looking case
Thank you sir!

Really like the brown & black combo. Sharp!
It does make a nice combination!

And I feel proud to own a wonderful Chuck Fields case knowing that a little bit of our knowledge went into making it.

Thanks for the kind words!

What a gorgeous case Chuck!! Excellent work sir.
Thank you!

Nah Chuck and I are good. We both know what the purpose of your post was Joe. Chuck makes awesome cases. In fact he made me the first custom case I have ever had made by another maker.

I am a huge fan of high quality work and glad to help my fellow makers

John is always willing to answer questions. I asked about the best way to bind tubes together and not only got answers, but diagrams

Awesome work! I would like to se the interior? Tubes, JBUltra, or JJ Type?
Right now its tube style, which I personally prefer. But I will be converting to a padded fabric interior very soon. Need to get them in hand to make my patterns. IMO tubes are hard to beat protection wise. You can drive a car over them and be safe. But alas, people are into the lighter weight cases these days, so if you cant beatem, joinem lol
Wow that is a sweet case!!!!!!

I should have the new interiors soon. It is my own interior, not Johns. He did design it, but it will carry my brand/label. I still laugh that people are so concerned about 2-3 lbs difference in case weight.

Well said sir. A greenie for you. I can't wait for my Fields case with his new interior.
I've got my fingers crossed that I get them this week.

Thanks!
Chuck

You are right. If they could have $1.50/h in labor cost they could be more profitable. Glad you found another way to slam a better case from what was written. Skill! Let's get down to brass tax shall we?

I know what Chuck's net profit was from his cases lasted year because he shared it. Rusty, what was yours (rhetorical)? But as the case buying public becomes more knowledgable about cases, how profitable will you be with 10, 15, 30% decline in sales?

The education of buying public is inevitable and can be witnessed by the slew if AZers that once joined you in JB bashing have now done a 180. I'm one of them.

The trend will only multiply. I can say this with confidence because I watch for similar trends with larger companies for a living.

So be the trend or do something to change it, but I'll say this:
I have earned the right to care about the protection of my cues and I don't give a rats a$$ where it was made. I am glad I dont have the same mAde in the USA value for wine and beer and vodka cause ild probably stop drinking.

Hi Chuck,
very very nice Case.:grin-square:
one Day I will own one without the rifts in the back panel:wink:
Ralf

I really wish people would resist bringing their arguments and drama into my threads.

Im going to say it this way, and its in no way meant as knocking John at all. I consider John a good friend. His cases are a different breed. He has a shop with employees making cases. Guys like me, Rusty, Jack, and Al, Rex cant and wont compete with that. His shear output is too much. All the cases he has sold in the last few months alone shows that. What we make are hand made by one craftsman cases (with exception to Justis's carved cases). I wont speak for anyone else Ive named, but I can tell you that I dont have a CNC laser cutting out my cases, or laying out my patterns for me. I will bet you they dont either. I cut my leather with various knives. I punch my holes by hand, and I layout my tooling with a yardstick and a scratch awl. Its a different animal. Its all in what you choose to own and support. Quality leather goods have been around at least a few thousand years..... Theyll probably be around for a few more....:grin:

Why would my sales go down 10, 15, 30 percent over the next few years? Are you saying my cases aren't built well or could damage a cue? My cases are built with a lot of hand work that very few take the extra steps and time to do. Plus a lot of blood, sweat and pride go into each and every one of my cases and every step of the build is done by me. But hey if you are right and things get slow, I can go back to doing the fries at Mcdonald's, that's where the big bucks are.
And I'm glad you don't like American craft beer, it leaves more for me.

That's a very nice looking case you made Chuck, New owner should love it.

Sorry Chuck, I just couldn't resist, and I'm sorry to rant in your thread.

I'm like you and cut parts by hand, lasers or clickers, it's all done by hand. It's a whole different world when you can lay out, cut your materials and burn your pattern onto the case without any handwork other than the setup on the machine. I'm just old school and probably should start to do it like some others do it, but I'm a tight azz, lol.

Yeah Chuck and Rusty all your base belong to us. Get out now!

:-)

We will never replace individual craftsmen. Can't happen. The reason is that each maker has his own flavor that resonates with people. We do too.

The same way Orange County Choppers hasn't put all the independent bike builders out of business.

Now what I do believe is that shops like mine help the individual builders because we are able to introduce a wider range of custom choices which in turn inspires customers to request those choices from builders they want to work with. I think a shop like mine can reach more people and get them introduced to the custom case world. This creates more buyers who might start with us but eventually might want the exclusivity of a Fields or a Melton.

Look at the end of the day all this extra chatter is because I took Joe's bait. He could care less about Chuck Fields. When it was to his advantage to say nice things about cases from my shop and cases from China then he heaped praise on us.

That's all this is about.

I am the only casemaker who lists my colleagues on his website. Why? Because if they build a case I respect then I acknowledge that.

Don't care for all the dramas on this thread. Regardless the case is build in USA, China or Mars., as long the work itself show the quality workmanship in it, there always going to have a customer base somewhere.

chuck, you build a very nice and very clean looking case !! Great attention to the smallest details in your case. Will be contacting you soon for some order.
