Hello Joven,

G11 is not a new material by any means. This is a glass melamine instead of the glass epoxy that makes up the G10.

Neither one of these materials is suitable for a jump/break tip. If you read some of my last posts on the thread about Ivorine-IV... Both the G11 and G10 will actually damage your equipment. These materials are harder than the phenolic balls we play with.

Not only will these tips damage your ball set, but they will actually start to leave glass shards embedded in the cloth as well from chipping at the edges. These shards will severely shorten the cloths' life, and will start to change the playing characteristics as well. Have you ever played on a really dirty table? It will seem like that no matter how many times you brush or vacuum it.

The best material to use is a canvas or linen based phenolic rod. These rods are EQUALLY as hard as the phenolic used in modern pool balls, and will not damage your equipment.

Happy cueing!

what would you use to glue these? jb weld, gorilla glue, or is locktite superglue good enough?
thanks,

Happy cueing![/QUOTE]

Maybe that's why my cue ball feels like it got little dent's, cause that's all I have been using is a G-10 break tip, as of today I will stop using this J/B and use a leather tip again. Great info. Rep to you class-act.

There's no point in using G-11 for tips with what's out already you don't need it....phenolic or G-10 is all that's needed...

Glass shards, damages the equipment, are you kidding me? What's not being understood here ? This stuff should be banned.

hardness

Is the G-10 harder than the phenolic? I have had good experiences with a Sledgehammer.

how good does great have to be? i break/jump excelent with phenolic. i dont think it gets much better

if its destroying equiptment its a no brainer. i can see the balls being dented but g 10 is suppose to be unbreakable.

i dont know glass shards are breaking off. i could be wrong

i can't tell you how well is it but in asia g11 is up and coming i sold almost 150 tip in the past 3 months

I perfer 1pc phenolic I have had excellent results. Even my customer have nothing but good things to say about them

I have worked in vending with pooltables and such equipment in some very bad bars, for around 18yrs and I have seen a small amount of pool balls/cue balls chip under extreme abuse. But I have also seen cueballs thrown out of a vehicle at 65mph, hit a concrete wall and when inspected, only had a scuff in it. To think that someone can hit a cue ball with a tip only 7-8 ft away, and can dent or leave shards, using a manufactured tip material attached to a wooden dowel approx. 1/2" dia. either his name is Popeye or the Hulk and their using technology beyond our planet, or someone is full of s#$@, or someone is using very cheap, imported balls that would chip by just by dropping them on a wood floor. If it's that bad for the equipment, doesn't common sense say that the weakest part would break or damage first?? like the shaft? It's only wood, therefore the wood should break first, before a phenolic ball should have a dent. As for shards of glass, your tip would need to break apart for any 'shard' big enough to be noticed, to be left on the table.
The pros break at an average of around 20-25 mile per hour according to stats I read in a pool mag about 5 yrs ago, therefore this would be a problem way before these new style tips. I think we need Myth Busters to investigate these claims.:D

i think if you're whacking an object at 20-25mpg with another object that is harder than it, over time some damage has got to happen. it may not be big chunks that are easily visible, but on a precision machined round ball with tight tolerances, it has got to affect the play eventually.

Yes it is...IMHO you can get to the point that anything harder is a moot point...as in this case...

I'll never use one piece ferrule/ tips anymore due to side blow out...just put a phenolic tip on the existing ferrule...
