New Guy Here, Trying To Sell A Cue.

Hello everyone I'm new here. I haven't really played much since college. But a guy I work with was talking about shooting pool and getting a new cue and it got me back into the game and looking at cues. Any way I decided to try a few different types of cues, and found one that shoots just like my old cue back in college. So now I'm trying to sell off the ones that don't match up with my way of shooting. I'm also trying ebay, but it almost cost $80-100 in fees and shipping to sell a decent cue, and thats a bit high I think. Anyway I'm having a bad experience with potential buyers here expencting me to send a $500-600 dollar cue to them to inspect it without them sending me any money first, just because I'm new here, and don't have any feedback. Is it just me or is that just crazy  . I've never herd of someone expecting you to send them something with out them paying first unless it is a scam. I'm just trying to sell off a few extra cues to start a fund for a new pool table for the basment and to pay some bills. Any one have any input on this, or similar experiences?

I would usually offer a free return, as long as buyer pays ALL SHIPPING. That way, they get to try out the cue, and you are paid beforehand. If they don't like it, they can return the cue(provided, of course, it is in the same condition as when you shipped it to them) at no cost to you(other than listing fees, and you can always include that in the shipping cost as a restocking fee:mad: ), and if they like it, a transaction is already complete. Kind of a pain, but possible.

I had one buyer mention escrow but I wasn't familiar with it, so we almost completed the deal with paypal. But he was out of the country and thought customs would confiscate the cue since it had Ivory in it. I usually use Paypal since they offer protection, they have always got my money back from a transaction gone bad.

I'd have no problem with letting them look at it and send it back if they don't like it, but I think it is too much of a risk to do it for free. Isn't Paypal similar to an escrow?

Also I've herd mention of an escrow service through AZBilliards, is there one? I've looked into escrow and the only legitamate escrow ebay recomended was escrow.com .

Side note, you can no longer sell any cue(or any other product, for that matter) on Ebay that contains ivory. Sucks. I understand the reasoning, but(theoretically speaking) even if you can prove any ivory is pre-ban, it is still not allowed. I guess that makes the AZ for sale/wanted the new preeminent site for (high end, at least) cue sales.

Until your known escrow is, IMO, a viable option.

Check out username "FAST and LOOSE" or "MANWON", you'll be in good hands with either.

Welcome aboard and best of luck.

There are plenty of cues still on Ebay with ivory in em...even listed with ivory. Some of em say things like "has amboyna burl points with exotic inlays." I'm guessing that they aren't policing that policy at all.

Here's a Richard Black cue with ivory in it on eBay

Thanks for the input guys, sucks to be the FNG. Hopefully things will go smoother once I get a few numbers by my name. Any more input or if you know of any one looking for a cue let me know.

Brain71 I've got a bairly used Schon STL-7 and a older Meucci I'm looking to sell.

Go to the wanted/for sale section post a thread of what you're wanting to sell. I can't think of their names at the moment but I know a couple of guys on there that will be more than glad to help with posting pictures and with giving a price range to list your cues. Good luck and hope it goes well.

There's alot of cues on Ebay with ivory. There are ways to get around the new "no ivory" rule. Just ask buyers to PM about inlays or post on the description that the cue has bone inlays or some code for ivory.

It helps to understand that people here have been burned pretty badly by others who actually did have decent rep. So yeah, it's a buyer's market and people are getting to be pretty cautious.

One thing you can do though is when you want to do a deal with someone you can simply check their feedback here and even ask. Just say who you want to do the deal with and you will see how quickly people either vouch for that person or tell you to be careful.

Try Escrow.

BEWARE of escrow unless you are totally experienced in selling on eBay and aware of all the real escrow companies. It's one of the biggest fraud techniques. A buyer will pop up wanting to buy your item and escrow the money for your protection while your item is shipped overseas. The escrow company he chooses is a legit-sounding but phoney company owned by none other than the "buyer" himself. When your item is shipped, kiss it and all your money goodbye. Escrow --Bad Idea for you.

Why so much? I've sold cues in this range on Ebay and I don't think it was anywhere near that much. I'd have to check to be sure.

Ron,

We were speaking of the Escrow services offered by two respected posters here.

These two are above reproach and their service is pretty cheap.

If it is a reputable member buying I would ship it COD or send it to them and then they can send payment.
