New High Run (on a Diamond)

It's a decision made solely on basic economics, but I started playing in a different room this week - a room that only has, dare I say it, Diamond tables. It's tough for an old school Gold Crown guy like me, but the room I've always played out of just isn't worth it anymore. No daily rate, un-level tables (except for #1 which everyone always fights over), uneven rails, can't draw a rack line on the table, had to buy my own set of Centennials to play with a decent set, etc., etc.

So for the past 3 days I've played about 18 hours on a Diamond and today, after popping off a 54, I think I'm starting to get used to it. I'm still not a fan, but $24 in table time beats $54 for the same 18 hours any day.

Nice run Ron. I am not a Diamond snob but I think you'll find that once you get used to them, you appreciate the extra focus they make you play with. I do not have "lazy misses" on Diamonds, while I still struggle with them on Brunswicks.

Keep up the good shooting!

Very nice to hear Ron....Sounds like we are puting a good end on 2010 and leading into 2011 with some solid play !!!

See you all on the 2011 run challenge list !!!

I used to hate the Diamonds, now that is pretty much the best table for me. Like Steve said, you need to be spot on if you are to continue to run balls. In particular, if the OB barely touches a rail, you're liable to miss. I remember playing on GC, where you could hit about a full diamond up the rail and the ball would still go in....not so with a Diamond table.

Nice run.

Thank You

Steve, Steve and Sal - thanks for the praise and the words of wisdom. They're much appreciated.

I don't think I'll ever get as comfortable on a Diamond as I was on a GC, but it'll have to do - at least for now. At least until I convince the room owner that having both types of tables is in his best interest. Anyway, here's to a great 2011 with nothing but good rolls and new high runs all around!.

Thanks again, guys,

Ron

54 is a good run on a Diamond. I'm also sad that the place in Dupont closed, too. The Gandy's played comparable to a Diamond and I miss the $10 daily rate. That other room stays in business because of the clientele - high school kids, bangers, etc. No need to take care of the tables, no need to cater to the serious player, and certainly no need to institute a daily fee. He's doing fine charging $6.00/hr
