new hightower tailstock

LOL ... That is what you get when family gets into your business.

Chris, I am very happy with my CueSmith Deluxe lathe the way it is but am interested in any improvements.
Please add me to the list of names for when they become available.

My dealings with you in the past have always been pleasant and over the years you have, time after time, proven yourself to be honest and a person of strong moral values ... Actions always speak louder than words.

Yea..Thats What i Said!!!!

Just ordered mine SIGHT UNSEEN and based on everything else Chris sells I'm sure it's a compliment to the rest of his equipment.

lathe parts

I can understand Chris's frustration with feeling like his parts are copied. However, as far as I know there are no patents of any sort on any of his products. Also he had the ingenuity to take readily available components and adopt them to suit his needs. It is no secret that his lathes use Taig components, that everyone has the ability to buy, as well as the parts that he makes himself. People have addressed shortcomings with the lathe, and while small, are cause for things to look into and remedy. Who is to stop someone and see a need for an improvement and do it? I guess my frustration is that in today's world, you have to always be one step ahead of your competition. For many years CueSmith and others have been the only deal on the block. I say a little competition will help tremendously and end up making both products better.

Kind of reminds me of my first car, a 1977 Malibu, surprisingly enough certain parts from a 1996 Caprice will bolt right on, as in its the same exact part. And then GM wonders what happened? Give me a break. You can't expect to not improve anything and continue to be top dog.

This is no means 100% directed at Chris or anyone else who makes lathes or lathe components for cues, I think the whole industry owes alot to them. Just more of a rant on the way I see it.

I bought this 6 weeks ago and can honestly say it has improved my joint work. I can only bore a precision joint pin hole to 1.4" deep. I then drill it the rest of the depth following the pre bored hole. With this new tailstock, my finished joints have been coming out darn near dead nuts.

Thanks Chris.

pretty sad

It's a pretty sad day we've come to. But then, you all know that.

When an honorable manufacturer is hesitant to show a pic of his new product for fear it will be RIPPED-OFF, it's time to ask ourselves just how we got to this point.
Knock-offs will happen. It's a fact of life. Some people just have such a lack of imagination that the only creativity they have is how cleverly they can steal someones else's intellectual property. Or how blatantly, for that matter.
But hey, it happens and you see it everyday. I can almost understand the 'idea thieves'. That's all they know how to do.

What I can't get my head around are the people who buy the knock-off item.
They have a choice and they chose the knock-off. And for what? To save a few bucks on a copied product. See if you can get a side of integrity to go with that.
What they are doing is rewarding the thief and encouraging them to do it again.
Believe me, they will.
The sharing of ideas is great, just don't do it with pictures. Not if you had any idea of marketing your new idea anyway.
I've heard it said that we create our own Hell. What you don't hear is that when your new Hell is completed, you now have to live there. Welcome home.

Sure is sad, I guess everyone isn't going to do the right thing. He deserves more consideration. Things seem to come around and bite you though. Maybe it will this time.

All in all, if someone wanted to duplicated anyhting they'd just buy it and do it.
Years ago i worked for an inventor coproration ( A Fortune 500 Company), that did just that. They'd have someone contact them wanting an item , so they'd buy the competitions and see what was being offered, then they'd make a better product.
Large companies like P&G Bristol Myers, Norton, Johnsons and Johnson, Etc, the list goes on and on. We are in the land of opportunity , everyone wants the edge. You can only protect yourself and your ideas for so long, then you need to come up with other ideas, other products.
