International Pool Tour News!

Dear IPT Supporter:

The IPT has undergone incredible growth over the last few months. Building a profitable international pool tour is a huge undertaking. It takes a tremendous commitment in financial resources, manpower, and time. Something of this magnitude does not happen overnight. The IPT is fully committed for the long term. We have the financial resources, business expertise, long-term vision, and exciting future corporate partners that will ensure that the IPT continues to grow and expand for many, many years to come!

Here are some updates on various issues:

Worldwide TV Contracts - There has been tremendous worldwide interest in the purchasing of the King of the Hill TV series, and acquiring rights to broadcasting the entire 2006 season. The bidding war and negotiations amongst all the television broadcasters has been exciting and time consuming. We have made our decisions and will be announcing the exact times and networks that will handle the IPT 2006 tournament schedule within the next two weeks. The King of the Hill Tournament will be six one-hour episodes and a two-hour finale. Each episode is designed to appeal to the 95 percent of people who do not watch billiards on television. These episodes will be run in primetime in America, the UK, Europe, and Asia. The 2006 IPT tournaments will include three hours per day of live broadcasting on television in primetime in Europe and Asia. Recorded broadcasts will be in Prime Time in America. This is unprecedented television coverage, and it is only the beginning of bigger and better things to come. We are turning pool into a true “sport.” We are also working on finalizing broadcasting rights in Canada, Australia, Mexico, South America, and several other worldwide markets. We will be announcing the TV broadcast schedule within the next two weeks.

IPT Staff - The IPT staff has grown to over 15 full-time people in the U.S. We continue to recruit and hire top quality staff members for our Chicago office and plan on opening offices in Europe and Asia very soon. Within the next few months we anticipate over 50 IPT staff in offices around the world.

DVDs - It is our intention to have available on DVD and for downloading, every match from the King of the Hill Tournament. The editing and production will take several more months. At each major tournament we intend on filming feature matches and having those available on DVD and for downloading as well. Our complete library of taped matches should be current by fall 2006. The IPT will be producing several more instructional DVDs featuring top IPT players. Look for these DVDs by the end of the year. Any comments and suggestions on how to shoot the matches to make them better for pool aficionados would be appreciated. We want to produce DVDs of the matches that the pool public will be excited about.

IPT Website - We are in the process of bringing in the required resources to produce a website with more features than any other website in billiards. These will include:
Real time scoring of all qualifying tournaments and major tournaments.
Live video streaming from all tournaments.
Interactive online pool matches and tournaments. These will include:
Million dollar online pool tournaments, as well as real money matches.
Billiard equipment and training aids at the best prices anywhere in the world. We intend to be the number one billiards supply site in the world.
Huge photo galleries and player profiles, audio and video interviews and lessons with the top players.
Live call-in shows with top players.
Message boards, chat rooms, and much more.

Announcers and Hosts - Within the next three weeks we will be announcing the TV broadcast team for the 2006 season.

Healthcare for Players - We are working on details for providing health insurance for all IPT players. Details will be announced at the North American Open at the Venetian.

IPT Pension - A pension and retirement program will be announced at the North American Open at the Venetian. This is designed to provide security for players who dedicate their life to the game. This, combined with health insurance and guaranteed annual income for IPT Members, should dramatically increase the number of players who decide to make playing pool a career on the IPT.

Corporate Partners - The rumors are true! In the last several months several multibillion dollar organizations have expressed interest in acquiring the IPT in full or in part. Having a major worldwide multibillion dollar organization as a partner in the IPT has many advantages. It would provide additional security and peace of mind to the players with the knowledge that the IPT will be here for many, many years to come. There are also many other marketing and financial advantages for the IPT players as well. All discussions are highly confidential and any announcements regarding this will be made at the appropriate time. There is a good chance that we will be making a major announcement at the players meeting at the North American Open at the Venetian, Las vegas.

IPT Cloth - Gorina has been selected to manufacturer our tournament cloth to our very unique and specific requirements. There is no cloth in the world currently that is identical to the IPT tournament cloth. This slow nap cloth combined with the tight pockets of the IPT Diamond table, and with no breaking from the side rail, means that it is difficult to make balls on the break. This is the most significant reason this cloth was selected. With fast worsted cloth, even on a table with tight pockets, it is relatively easy to pocket two or three balls on the break. In our testing it was shown that on the same Diamond table, the worsted cloth produced 97 percent of the time at least one ball pocketed. This was compared to only 52 percent of the time a ball was pocketed with the IPT slow nap cloth. On the worsted cloth 65 percent of the time two or more balls were pocketed. This compared to only 22 percent of the time where two or more balls were pocketed with the IPT nap cloth. On the worsted cloth balls were tied up only 18 percent of the time. On the IPT nap cloth balls were tied up 42 percent of the time. In this test, the nap cloth had been broken in for three weeks of solid play; it was not new cloth.

What this means is that breaking and running out on the IPT nap cloth is much more difficult. In order to break and run out on the IPT nap cloth you must possess a very powerful break, knowledge of running patterns, pinpoint cue ball control, and incredible accuracy with a powerful stroke. It has been proven that the harder you hit the cue ball the less accurate the shot becomes. These factors dramatically reduce luck. These conditions will mean that the better player will more consistently win. IPT Tournament Conditions, like the U.S. Open golf conditions, are designed to make luck much less of a factor. To win an IPT Tournament, a player must have tremendous physical and mental stamina, ability to handle pressure, knowledge of running patterns, a high degree of accurate shot making, a powerful stroke, a powerful break, and excellent cue ball control. The winner must possess all of these skills. IPT Champions will not be lucky. They will be true athletes who have the mind, knowledge, skills, and physical fitness to be the best. Available now.

IPT Tournament Balls - SALUC of Belgium has been selected to manufacture IPT Tournament Balls to our very specific requirements. These will be the highest quality, longest lasting, and truest playing billiard balls in the world. These will be released in June.

IPT Chalk - The IPT has commissioned a major manufacturer to produce the IPTs official chalk. This chalk uses the most expensive and highest quality ingredients and manufacturing processes available anywhere in the world. It is by far the highest quality chalk in the world. It is ideal for multiple environmental conditions. Available now.

IPT Sardo Rack - The Sardo Rack has been selected as the official rack of the IPT. Using this rack guarantees fairness. Every player gets the exact same perfect rack every time. Available now.

IPT Tournament Table - Diamond has been selected to manufacture the IPT Tournament Table to our unique and specifications. These tables are designed to last. They play consistently the same year after year. They are also designed to play tougher than other tables. Players must be accurate, guaranteeing the more skilled and accurate player will more consistently win.

Corporate Sponsors - The IPT has generated interest for major corporations including insurance, financial services, automobiles, beer and liquor companies, credit cards, and several other industries. They are huge world-wide corporate interests in providing long term sponsorship agreements for the IPT. Since the IPT is fully funded, we are being prudent in evaluating all sponsorship offers currently being presented. We may choose to accept outside sponsorship in the future. More announcements on this will be made at the North American Open at the Venetian, Las Vegas.

Wagering on Tournaments - On-line sports books and casino sports books are discussing the possibility of accepting wagering on the major tournaments and possibly qualifiers. There are many legal and jurisdictional issues that are being reviewed. More details will be forthcoming when available.
Look for many more announcements to be coming within the next two months.

I think this is a great sign of things moving in the right direction. I am particularly happy for all the players about the health care and pension details.

I hope it all comes to fruition. It sounds very exciting!

Yes, the health and pension programs will be a good thing. Also, I can't wait for the Live Streaming Video and Online Pool Tournaments.

Some very impressive developments in this announcement.

A lot of work has been done and a lot of achievements.

Looking forward to the broadcasting details being announced in the next 2 weeks.

If they get the details worked out that would be great at least for sweat bets.

I'm excited about the TV announcements, especially live broadcasts in Europe and Asia. I'm also happy to see that we will get some TV coverage here in Canada as well as some of the other smaller markets where pool has pretty much been left out in terms of TV coverage.

The gambling area really could be a big deal. Not only does it increase exposure, but it could lead to very big sponsorships.

Gambling websites dominate sponsorship of Matchroom events as well as World Snooker events and players nowadays.

And with players playing for big purses and long term rewards, the chances of dumping decrease, making it more attractive for gambling services to take a punt on.

Combining broadcasting rights, corporate sponsorships, DVDs / cloth / tables / balls etc sales, qualifier revenues and gambling revenues / sponsorships the $30 million or so a year it's gonna take to run a 10+ event yearly international tour starts looking feasible.

There's also the longer term possibily of extensive leagues, franchised IPT member clubs which could bring in big revenues.

It's a mindboggling business plan. The key pivot will be the success of the broadcasting and it seems like they're on track with that...but it could take a couple of years to develop it.

Man, a lot of great ideas being formed here.

Gambling on IPT events? Like parlay cards? And the venue is Las Vegas? Now we know why.

Medical Insurance and pension? Who would have thought?

DVD's of the games? I wonder if they will ever get to Blockbusters? I want the Gerda/Strickland match and the last two that Manalo played.

Worldwide TV broadcast. To tap into the overseas market.

It just gets better and better. Yep he is a true visionary.

I would venture to guess that after the 2006 season, and for sure after the 2007 season, all the other Tours in the USA will either fold or have to go under a major reorganization. The true pros will only play in the IPT. Just like true pros in any other sport only play in the professional arena.

And if they are making 100K, 200K, 500K in the IPT why would they want to play anywhere else? Especially with all of the added benefits.

I am sure that Tommy Kennedy would prefer to be a regular on the IPT than putting all those miles on that car of his running his tour. He worked hard all these years and he deservers to enjoy the fruits of all that hard work.

I wonder if there is a chance that this company will go public and be listed on the NASDAQ?

I cant wait for the DVD's. I definately want to pick up the Gerda/Strickland match and I want to pick up All of Bustamantes matches and Corey Deuels matches and probably a few others too.

The gambling is a great idea also. Id loe to be able to bet online on matches live as they are happening.

Looks like things are really shaping up good.

Will there be TV coverage in areas not served by the aforementioned providers??

I expect the other tours will become second tier pro tours kind of like the Nationwide tour in golf. But there certainly will be a place for the other tours because the IPT only allows 150 players and there are far more than 150 pros, even in the US.

does anyone think this part of the release is wierd:

It basically says there have been talks with those who want to acquire the IPT in full and no denial that it is for sale. Maybe it is written weird or maybe im reading it wrong. Just seems kinda strange.

i recieved an email today from the ipt about having comission for those who recruit players for the qualifiers and using this as an alternative advertising method... interesting...

International Pool Tour Press Release

The International Pool Tour is excited to announce a major opportunity for you to promote the game that you love! The IPT has launched the qualification tournament system for the North American Open 8-Ball Championship. Instead of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to advertise the North American Open, and how anyone can play in this tournament through the qualifiers, we would rather offer a grass-roots opportunity that will send large sums of money directly to those people who promote the sport.

The concept is simple. Each player who signs up for a qualification tournament can specify a referrer, or someone who signed them up for the tournament. Whoever it is that is the referrer, whether it be an IPT Player, Room Owner, Tour Operator, Pool League, Pre-Qualifier Host, or Individual, will receive a 10% commission of the entry fee (a $1000 entry equals a $100 commission and a $500 entry fee equals a $50 commission) AND a bonus amount equaling 10% of the prize money won by that player in the tournament in which they qualified to play.

So if you sign up a player (you or your business must be listed on the entry form) for a qualifier and he ends up winning the IPT North American Open 8-Ball Championship and the $350,000 first prize, you will receive 10% of the entry fee for signing him up and a $35,000 bonus (10% of the prize money won)! Even if the player comes in last place in the IPT North American Open 8-Ball Championship, you would receive 10% of the entry fee for signing the player up for the qualifier and $200 more because last place in the tournament pays $2000 (10% of the prize money won)! Obviously, the more players you sign up, the better the chance you will have to make serious money.

You can also purchase spots in Qualification Tournaments ahead of time and host pre-qualifier tournaments. You would be the referrer of the player who wins the pre-qualifier, so the more pre-qualifiers you host, well, you do the math!

Simply print out a copy of the entry form and schedule which can be downloaded by clicking here. Make sure to print your name or business name (tour name, league name, etc.) and a way to contact you on the form as the referrer. Make photocopies of the form and distribute to potential players.

If you think about it, there has never been an opportunity like this in the sport. Do not miss out on this opportunity to make some serious money promoting the sport that you love. The IPT is excited to promote pocket billiards on the grass-roots level while concurrently driving the image of the sport in the mainstream media. Now everyone has the potential to earn big money promoting pool! You don't have to be a top player or even play in tournaments to earn huge money. Promote the IPT and you can go to the pay window too!

I like to use the term "Makes no sense" But that is the first thing that makes sense. They very well may be trying to get out from under and find someone to take it over rather then just announce they are folding.

From the IPT site.

QUESTION:
Are you trying to get other sponsors?

Answer:
No. I am not trying to get other sponsors. All the people in pool are wondering how I can make money with the IPT tour, or ask all these questions about how I can turn a profit and what my business model is. Unfortunately, the critics have absolutely no clue about how to run a billion dollar business. With all due respect to all of you wannabe business people please understand that I do know what I am doing! I have a very successful track record of building enormous worldwide businesses. When people start questioning my business decisions I stop and ask the simple questions: Are you worth 100 million dollars? Are you worth $50 million? Are you worth $10 million? Are you worth a million dollars? Have you built a billion dollar company? If you have answered no to those questions, you really don’t qualify to give an opinion about how to launch and start a successful anything! I say this with all due respect.

The carrott keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Just a Thought

Anyone else see the hipocrisy (or irony, if you prefer) in Mr. Natural Cures offering health insurance to people; feeding money into the same so-called corrupt system that he's fighting against?

As for the rest, it all sounds very nice. Except for the wagering aspect. Gambling never made any sport better.

You're assuming that there is a drug plan in there too :D

I don't think it's weird, It doesn't say it's for sale, just expressed interest. Lots of people will look closely at how the first year goes. It's way too early now, and I don't think anything more then a partnerships or sponsorship is being talked about. Depending on how the first 2 or 3 years go the IPT brand could very well be worth much more then all he has invested, would he sell the whole thing if the money was right? maybe.

If you build it they will come, KT is trying to build a brand and taking a huge risk that no other Billiard organization or person wanted try or even had the means to try. It's a very big risk, and many will watch from the sidelines since most would rather come in after he's built a foundation.

Sure he said he wasn't pursuing other sponsors, If he said he was and nobody came calling then it would look bad, at least in his mind. Apparently at least someone has showed some interest in sponsorship, hence now he can safely say there is interest. Strange way to do and say things, but I have certainly heard similar double talk like that from other business's, they always say X and then do Y, heck wouldn't surprise me in the least if we see a major beer sponsor after all the health food talk.

None of this bothers me much, I always knew if things worked out we would see other sponsors. It would bother me more if he turned down sponsorships, it's vital to have sponsors, even ESPN who owns BASS has outside sponsors for the tour.

I love a good sales pitch

Classic sales pitch, everyone can make money.

But do you deserve the chance to earn it (thats what an interviewer might say).

I wonder if this person was cautious, or promoted?

Health insurance is way to expensive nowadays, grab a dental cleaning kit, a BP monitor and start managing what you can on your own.
