I know when getting a new layered tip it should be sharpened. My question is, should it also be trimmed down?

Hmmm...1/8th of an inch. Lower than I thought.
I just measured my kamui tip and its 5/8th of an inch (I've had it for about a month, so I'm guessing it started out around 6/8th of an inch)
