Just noticed that the new line up of Joss cues have nice sharp points. Really looks nice on the N-7 COM cue.

Have a link to the ones you’re talking about? Everything I see still has a radius.

I hate rounded points.
If you can buy a Chinese made cue with sharp points for $150 why not on a Joss or others that are triple $150 and more.
I will never buy a cue with rounded points it's a cheap and lazy way to make a cue.

To be fair, it is much more difficult to have sharp points with such a light wood like maple.

For reference this is what they used to look like and how they look in the movie. So these new points are sharp

Are you guys talking about the end of the last veneer being round because these point look sharp to me unless I'm going blind.

there was a time before CNC that production cues all had sharp points.
then they got lazy and fast.

It’s funny that people associate CNC with being lazy. I started out making traditional full splices which some will argue is one of the most complicated construction methods you can do. My rings and other things are made on the cnc and I can assure you it’s just as involved as my splicing.

Keep in mind too that the radius can be tightened up or "sharpened" by using a much small cutter.

Most production cues I've seen look like they used a 1/32 end mill, going back to the 80's Joss/Schon inlay machines might not have done any smaller, plus end mills smaller than that might not have been available readily? With the spindles people can run now affordably you could drop that down to a .020 or even .010. I heard or read somewhere that Searing did his S with a .005 then shifted sideways and went back giving him a .010 wide pocket.

I personally like the idea of CNC points. That doesn't mean I won't be able to make something unique with it. I also appreciate good veneer work as well. Tommy D.

What about Predator? I know they seem to be the cues that many folks love to hate, but they have seriously sharp points on their old basic production models -- green and black veneered sneaky petes, for instance. I have not examined any other Predators, but I just checked mine out, and it has sharp points. I cannot swear as to the outside (black) veneer but the others are classic "split in the middle" veneers. I have been wondering a while -- if Predator can do it, why can't Schon? Any ideas?

Good point. I have a Predator Willie Hoppe cue with points that are "sharp enough". Sharper that any Schön I've owned.👍🏼

with all the changes at Schon maybe no one there can do sharp points?
just a guess.
