Hello fellow shooters, my name is Michael and I am new to this forum. I figured I would kill two birds with one stone by briefly introducing myself and provide a few pics of my arsenal.

I am 38 years old (male). I have been playing pool since I was tall enough to see the table. My parents had a 7 foot Brunswick in the basement and it took a stool for me to play before I was tall enough. While my father shot some pool, it was uncles who played much more and I was fortunate enough to learn from them. I actually honed my game playing quite a bit on a 10 foot snooker table which my uncle owned. It didn't take long before my large, immediate and extended Irish Catholic family, would line up to donate on Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings.

The Achilles' heel in my game right now is an inability to make longer shots which I can attribute to not staying down on the ball. Ironically enough, my golf game parallels my pool game. When I am on in both games I can hold my own with the best of them (amateurs). It probably helps I dress up in drag to play against women (joking)

Here are a couple of the cues I use:

-McDermott 504 (just purchased and switched the tip today from a stock Everest to a ZAN Grip Hard)
-Viking, circa 2004

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I have found a plethora of information on this site and I look forward to unearthing more. I play in 2 leagues near my home (partner & solo), so I am looking forward to honing my game a bit more and hopefully learn more about the custom cue market. Frankly, I had no idea there are so many "artists" involved in making cues by hand.

Welcome. I'm 39 but it seems many on this site are much older tan us. I actually feel young here lol. I also play in league, all I have time for. Have severe back issues as well, so sometimes I struggle shooting.

Welcome!

This is not a new strategy....it has been tried. (Not kidding)

Yup. You will find that for some it is an intense passion...practically a lifestyle. It isn't for everybody and plenty just go along with a utilitarian cue.

You might be surprised how much there is to learn on the matter. I consider myself a student of cues and I can tell you that after years I feel I have only scratched the surface.

I have a feeling if you hang around here enough the bug will bite you...you may see something you like and just have to go for it.

Welcome! Tons of great info here but be careful browsing this forum....you'll find it can be a slippery slope when it comes to cues, haha!

Thanks everyone!

Slide, my friend plays with a Runde and he is trying to convince me to buy a Schon. I have been pondering a Predator Sport II or a P3. The old guard on this site and traditionalists seem to favor Schon's, Joss, et cetera over Predators. I don't like Predators are manufactured overseas but I think they look modern and sharp.

Welcome

Welcome.

You will spend a good deal of time reading all of the information post in the various sections and becoming familiar with the people who post here.

There is also a wealth of information stored in the archives. At some point you might want to consider a gold membership to access the older posts.

Regardless you will find AZ a great resource.

Lets get back on track..

Nice setup behindthe9ball!! Welcome!!

Thanks everyone for the information and warm welcome to the forum (& AZ).

Any MIchiganders out there?

Finally, I used the new ZAN grip hard yesterday and the difference (between the Kamui soft) was evident almost immediately. I was hesitant to put a new tip on a brand new cue, but it was definitely worth it.
