Hello everyone. Been reading the forum for awhile now but have just joined & this is my 1st post.

I bought a pool table 3 months ago ( 1950's Sauiner Wilhem commercial 8' OS ) & am just getting back into pool after a 25 year layoff. My son and I enjoy playing straight pool with a lil one pocket thrown in on occassion. We recovered the table last week with Championship Tour 3030. Got some advice from Glen on streching the cloth. Would have never believed you could strech it so far ( at least 5" side to side ) without tearing it. Thanks for your quick response and helpful advise Glen. We got it streched tighter than a drum & what a difference. Table rolls like wedding silk now.:D Makes the game so much more enjoyable when you don't have to crush the balls.

I'm looking to purchase a new cue and plan on spend about $250 - $300. I have been looking at the McDermott M11A and like the looks of this cue and also the fact that the joint is wood to wood. Being a straight pool played, I'm not a heavy hitter & enjoy a softer hit for more control. Any feedback and/or advise on this cue or any other alternative cue suggestions would be greatly appreciated. BTW my current cue is a 40 year old Rich...18 oz....11.75mm with elk tip.

I've gotten lots of good advise & insight from this forum so far & look forward to becoming an active member.

Suggestion

Go to a billiards supplier and try as many cues as possible to determine what dimensions and weight of cue feels best to you. It is the best way to decide for yourself what feels best for you.

Glad to hear you have a table at home for you and your son to enjoy. Speaking of tables I too have a Saunier Wilhem table in the 9 foot version. Any chance you can post pictures of your table as I think that there are not many in existence and have never seen the overside 8 footer.

New Cue

Go out and shout with as many cues as you can, see what works for you, you may find a $80.00 cue works better for you then an $300.00

The best cue I ever shot with was a bright pink McDermott with a cork wrap, I could have picked it up for $87.00 but it was pink, and it would have been my first cue I would have bought, I went with a Coker instead and it shot very well, but I will always remember the Pink cue 18.7 oz

So instead of an $87.00 I bought a $800.00 cue that shot almost as well but was not pink:eek: :o :(

IMO Don't look at weight or any think just start picking them up and shouting and see what works

Pool Table Pics

Here are a few pictures of my table in my basement. Perhaps you could post a few pics of your 9 footer. I hope I attached these correctly.

Well, just ordered McDermott M64B " Summit" cue. Decided to upgrade to professional series. Cue is due in 2 weeks ( read 4 weeks..lol ). I'll post & do a review on it when I've got a few racks in with it.

Wow our tables are identical! I have a 9', that i just finished tuning up for my birthday, although I have to admit that yours looks great!
Mine has two toned black and white legs for whatever reason....that will be changing in the near future....
Thanks for sending me the link!

you should have bought it and had it refinished/stained

I went to a Billiards dealer and tried out the usual suspects.
Viking
Mcdermott
Joss
Lucasi
I bought a Lucasi because i liked the look and the feel.
One last thing. All these cues were at MSRP. They sell for 20% less on the net. Times are tough and i offered to buy any of the cues at internet pricing and they did it. All i paid extra was $19 sales tax which was well worth it because i got to see and feel the exact cue i bought.Production cues bought site unseen from the net are a little bit of a crap shoot, they can all vary a bit.
Good luck and as one poster said hit as many as you can and don't get hung up on the brand.
