Some people that play at around say my skill level dont want to waste the money to go to a tournament they have no chance of winning. You and I play somewhat close to the same ability, if you had a 404 tournament and this tournament on the same day, one of which you had an opportunity to win some matches after losing way more then you win at 404.... which tournament would you be playing in? Those CPA players or TAP players who rank somewhere from 4-6 in the league have a way better chance of winning matches in this tournament series instead of the 404 where they could draw a professional/very skilled player that may not miss a shot in their whole match. Its not fun losing a match 9-0 or 10-0 without even having a chance to pot any balls because the player you're playing against is way out of your league, thats why hacks like us play each other when we gamble. So both players have a chance to win.
In my eyes, if eligible, I would prefer to play in a tournament where I can win some matches for a change. Ive donated just as much as anyone and for once Id like to have a chance to be on the winning side of a few matches. I think that is what this tournament series is about. People can talk about practice all they want, but some players have already peaked or dont have the time or resources to practice 20 hours a week.
1. between this or the 404 tournament i would play in the 404. thats not even something i have to think about.
2. your initial argument was that these guys don't go to the 404 because they play guys that are better than them who are at the SAME handicap. you said that they wouldn't show up because they would be playing 4's and 5's who are stronger than them. so i was merely saying that if they dont show up to the 404 because they want to avoid those stronger 4's and 5's, then they wouldnt play this one since those guys would be here as well. this in effect makes ur point moot since it doesnt prove anything as those weaker players still wouldnt show up. i also dont know why u brought up guys playing pros or whatever since i was never addressing that to begin with.
3. there's always a chance to win, very rarely do the pros actually blank the weaker players in a tourny like the 404 where it's alternate break. it seems to only happen to u. to be honest tho, it happened to me once agaisnt mario when he only missed 1 shot the whole game. but even then it was that bad because i couldnt make a ball off the break that match. if they do blank u just sit back and watch the show. it's well worth the entry.
4. We gamble to get better, not just to shoot around. there's a reason why guys like isaac, ronald, alan, jaypee, alex and all those guys who gamble are getting better quicker than a lot of the people around here who just shoot around.
5. i know u've donated a lot but so has everyone else. u're not the only one who pays and doesnt cash often. u just bring it up a lot more than anyone else. believe me, a lot of guys havent cashed much in the 404 either but they keep playing in order to get better. they dont blow up and concede matches after a dry break, and they dont start throwing their cues around either. maybe u'll cash more if u just keep ur emotion in check. i've actually seen u play well when u remain calm. but i notice in a lot of matches u get mad after missing a shot and start missing even more.
u always bring up how u cant win matches, u donate money etc. honestly just play to get better. in the other thread u told dean u only play to gamble. if u just tried to get better maybe u would cash more. if u dont put any effort into getting better then dont complain about not cashing or being able to do anything in a tournament. and that stuff about players reaching a peak and practice not producing any results in bs. especially if u're a 4 or a 5. i dont know how u can even make that statement when u're a 4. anyone who is a 4 or a 5 will always benefit and get better with practice. i know i never used to cash much, but i've started getting a lot better than what i used to be and i've been cashing a bit recently. so it's all practice. if the pros are practicing to get better, u cant tell me that someone who's a 4 or a 5 has peaked and cant get any better through practice. u just made that up.
i realize u might not cash often, but it's also hard for u to cash when u go 1 and out in a double elimination tournament. u werent trying to and didnt give urself a chance to win. so dont be surprised if u dont cash. some of the guys lose their first match and grind it out on the b-side until 2am, make it to sunday then come back at 11am for their match. there's a reason why u would have trouble beating players like that. sometimes when things dont go ur way u give up too easily.
i just re-read this post and some of it might sound harsh but im just getting tired of reading your posts or hearing u in person complain all the time about playing and losing to better players in tournaments and how u dont like to practice to get better. i dont have a graph or anything but there is a direct correlation between the two so if u're not trying to get better then stop complaining about losing. also, believe it or not, even the pros lose on a regular basis to lower handicapped guys. i remember sarwar once beat johnny, raymond and took mario to the hill all on the same night and that guy is worse than either of us. so yea the pros might win a lot but they takes their losses too. everyone loses matches, just learn from it and get better.
