New player from Florida here (tampa area) Hello all.

9 ball/8 ball New Player
Silver Member
I've been playing for about 2 months now.. I really enjoy the game, and although I can beat all the players that taught me how to play and whom play at my local pool place (which is not a pool-hall, just a hookah bar, I'll move to the pool hall when I am a bit better) I still have a lot of learning to do. Most good players I talk to have played for 10 years +.

I fell in love with the game right away. I found pool and it is very interesting, and fun. I will be playing it religiously from now on in between college and everything else. I bought a pool table which is a bit big for the room I'm in so I have to use a smaller cue on corners which really sucks but it's fine for practicing at night and other times. So far I've been playing many hours a day and in this 2nd month of playing I understand angle shots much more, and from reading articles online and advice I am able to put english on the ball in my limited way. I will need hands-on training at some point as I have learned all this from the internet or local bar friends who know nothing about the game except the rules truthfully. I couldn't pocket a ball two months ago, not even the most simple shots, now a 4 ball run is common. I enjoy it very much and I can only imagine where I could go with more practice and advice.

I have a Lucasi Hybrid and playing with it compared to a house cue was an amazing change. (So was going from soft tips to medium, I think ill go upto hard next time). I just ordered an GB-2 Balabushka with a really beautiful black 4x2 leather case with red alligator diamond inlays all over.

I plan on being a long time player and have been here reading to learn since the first day I started playing. I just thought i'd make an account and introduce myself. I will post pics of my cues in a bit here when my 2nd one gets in.

I am trying to learn how to jump shot correctly, I am very good at doing it the illegal way as the people at my local bar said that is how you do it (now I know it's not, you hit from above for legal shots, which I can't do). I also need to just learn my normal angle shots and everything in general.

Nice to meet everyone and hope I can learn a lot! Going to get a free dvd from Fast Larry and if it helps me I'll buy some more of his. After the free dvd if it looks like it has good instructions that actually help me I will be going to him for several days of lessons... as I believe he could help me immensely, if I find his dvd helpful I will be doing that.

Welcome to our place.
I would see his newness to the forum and the quickness of his mention of taking lessons from Fast Larry to be much more reason to run for cover than the cues he has. :duck: :outtahere:

Welcome, Destrukkt.

The first rush of pool enthusiasm is in many ways the best. You will be learning a great deal and make rapid progress with your game.

Enjoy the ride.

Don't forget to look up JohnnyT in Tampa

Oh, and a very helpful long standing member here is from tampa also. His username is JohnnyT. I don't want to speak for him, but maybe if you send him a PM, he'd invite you over as he's done many times before for other AZB newbies. He'd discuss all things AZBilliards with you. He might even invite you to play a little on his table, but don't worry, he's not very good, so bring a few bucks.

You'll enjoy it!

forget Larry, talk to the Joes

A little advice any newcomer to pool can benefit from, talk to the Joe's. Joe Tucker and Joe Villalpando are both members here and their instructional material will cut years off of your learning curve.

Joe Tucker for stroke and break information, Joe Villalpando for everything else you need to be a winner in very good company. Both very good guys and Joe Villalpando is a friend of mine. I'd buy his DVD's first just to learn how things are supposed to work.
