New Pool Hall Idea --- Barbershop/Billliards

Is there no poolroom in Norman? Haven't been down in a while. A college town the size of Norman you'd think could support one.
 
I have a highly customized Rambow cue, ordered by a Gage Park (Chicago Hall) pool hustler in the early to mid 50's. The provenance states that he played, patrons of Gage Park, for money while working in the pool hall. He worked in the pool hall while in trade school to become a barber!! Interesting connection between cutting shots
And hair!

There is a burger joint/brewery/pool hall a few miles off campus, but it has no serious players and refuses any tournament or league offers; nappy old cloth and okay equipment. With the amount of students, many from overseas where pool is growing, I would have to believe a pool hall done well, would do well. A place within walking distance, with strong wifi, good coffee, room to study, perhaps ps/xbox stations, and of course good tables would be a good bet.

Barbershop customers come in less frequent than pool playing customers, but I still think there's something there. Maybe a poker room in the back ;)
 
My earliest memory of seeing a pool table was when I was in a barber shop with my dad. I can remember being mesmerized by it but that's about all I can remember. This would have been somewhere around Flint, Michigan in the early 80's.

Combining business is a very good way to benefit both businesses. I got to a Home Depot that has a complete sit down McDonalds inside the store.

I also go to a Best Buy that has an Apple store inside. They don't just sell Apple products, the people you talk with are Apple employes, it is a separate store.

I don't believe a pool room can stand alone anymore. Be it food, beer, whatever you need another stand alone business to combine with the pool room. There are probably any number of ideas that would work.

Heck, Mike Massey had a Bible store and pool room. I always thought a a pizza parlor / pool room would be a natural. They would augment each other with attracting customers as well as providing income.

I was in Belgium at Raymond Ceulemans pool room "Mr. 100". It is a combo restaurant billiard room. I don't think it requires that much "out of the box" thinking. You just need a little more income then a pool room can provide by it's self to make the business viable.

And it does not necessarily need to be a bar. Toby Sweet had an idea to open a pool room / ice cream parlor. An old fashioned ice cream parlor like you saw a 100 years ago with a pool room.

Today you would probably add a coffee shop as well, having three business combined. The ideas are endless.
