Good evening, does anyone happen to have any information on the new pool hall being built in Colorado, Westminster I believe.

My son lives in Denver and one of the techs that put his Diamond together was talking about a new room that was being put together on the northern side of Denver. That's the last I had heard about it,
this was a couple of years ago.
I have been wondering about it myself.

I remember post 1986 COM - a new pool room was opening every week somewhere in the U.S. - actually many more than that - I remember about 20 rooms all within a half hour or so driving - every one of them closed now

I had about a dozen within 30 minutes back then. Today i have about 4 and none of them care about keeping the place up.

1989 about a half hour drive from Stamford Ct. in any direction: Stamford 2 rooms, Norwalk 1 room, Westport 1 room, Fairfield 1 room Bridgeport 2 rooms, Milford 4 rooms, Danbury 1 room, Hamden 2 rooms, West Haven 1 room, Union 1 room, Derby 1 room, Waterbury 2 rooms, white Plains NY 2 rooms--- 21 rooms within a half hour or so drive. I think by 1993 or so there were even another 5 to 10 rooms open in this vicinity- I can remember some of them opening. I do not know of any of these original rooms being open now in CT. - maybe a few, I know of a few replacement rooms in this vicinity - 2 to be exact.

Some of the biggest correlations to all these rooms closing- from a time perspective in Ct.- 1. the opening of casinos, 2. popularization of poker,
3. ESPN dropping pool from prime time night, 4. THE INTERNET capturing our youth.

And let us not forget the biggest factor of all: direct deposit paychecks!

Well- that has all been fixed now, yes direct deposit paychecks, in a way, kept immediate cash out of people's hands- cash that they might gamble- but now gamblers just Venmo , cash app, etc. each other for money owed on bets.

Indoor smoking ban also put a strain on pool halls. I know that the wave of closings started very very soon after that happened. Around me, withing a couple of years of it, out of the 3-4 pool halls within 30 minutes of me only one stayed open for a few years past the smoking ban, and they also closed eventually after spending tens of thousands on making a second room for smoking, once a full smoking ban happened. Before you could have a separate section, then the law was modified.

Truth. I did ignore that fact.

Well if you go to Ft. Myers Fl- or Cape Coral Fl-almost every room is still a smoking room from what I have experienced. I will not bring any linen wrapped cues or my good cue cases into these rooms- you just can't remove the smoke once it gets into linen wraps or case interiors- at least not easily.

Yes in the south places still allow smoking, but many places banned it, which I am pretty sure was a reason for room closures. The timing was just too close not to be that. Smoking ban hit, couple of years later, pool halls closed.
