Hope to add some practical humor to a great yet frustrating game/sport we all love.

Had a shot that I ruined terribly with sudden body movement earlier, and called out "Lurch" I won't go into the history of why this word came up, but it seemed appropriate. It could stick.. .

Here are some examples of a "Lurch"

The close draw shot.... you barely tap the cue ball trying to move your cue out of the way from you great draw shot.

The shot you try to hammer in the hole.... you swing your arm out like your swinging a bat, missing the shot by a mile.

Touch the cue ball on your practice stroke... suddenly hammer the cue ball before someone notices.

Just a few examples.... ever name a shot you mess up??

omg...sooo true. Happens to me when I try too damn hard to cue closer to the ball. Good advice, that should be applied slowly and lightly.

We have a couple of names for that draw shot where you pull the cue back too quickly. It's known as the "couboy draw" because it looks like the shooter is trying to laso the cue ball and pull it back.
In extreme cases, it's also called the "Hoover draw" when the backward movement is so severe it looks like the shooter is trying to create a vacuum and suck the cue ball backwards!

When you get too straight on a ball that's going into the corner, and is within a foot or two of the short rail. You must hit with nice outside draw to bring whitey back to the side rail with enough spin to make the cue ball move all the way across the table to the other short cushion. We call this "Super Monkey Draw".

When you have a reverse cut or otherwise have too much angle to draw straight back on a ball... so you must pound it so that the cue ball goes over-and-back... across the table to the side rail and then spin+draw back towards your side of the table. I call this the "Whip-it".

When you have no shot in a ring game so you just smack your ball towards the money balls, hoping to get lucky. This is the old "Whack'n'pray" (a modification of "Spray n pray")
