New Powder Blue Simonis Is Quite Nice!

got my new Simonis Powder Blue 860 installed today. i must admit, i am very, very pleased with it. it looks awesome, pic is attached, hope it does it justice.

sure is funny, the sample i had looked just like the actual cloth, but once it was installed it sure looked more like it does on TV/Magazines/Internet, etc, than what i thought it would. plus the new cloth sure makes the Gold Crown play great, much like the way the ones on TV play.

but, of course with my luck, i had a stiff neck and sore back tonight, and had to quit playing about midnight. after i got back from the high school basketball game, i tried to play, but only managed about an hour or so before i just had to give in. and the bad rolls were seemingly about to set in also, so i just gave up totally. shux.

thanks to all who responded about my Powder Blue threads, i couldnt be happier with it. the helper of the main installer was actually Jeanette Lee's cousin, thought that was pretty cool.

regards,
DCP

Looks very, very nice! BTW, it may be an illusion, but the spot looks too far up-table. Am I just seeing things?

we marked it so the 9-Ball would be on the spot, and not make the mark on the cloth where the cue ball collides with the 1-Ball on the break.

does anyone else do it like that?

DCP

p.s. and here it is, sunday morning, and my neck is still stiff and sore. man, i have the worst luck. just like at the high school game last night, there were two sexy blondes a few rows in front of me, and both had rings on.

did you do this on the table before the new cloth was installed as well???? not very many tourney's at all are doing this, and you are going to see different results on your break..........you are telling us that you get alot of bad luck on your break, this may have something to do with it, i'm not sure. even if it doesn't, most tourney's are spotting the one on the spot again, so you're going to be practicing one way, and doing it another.

thanks

I agree with va on the 9-Ball break aspect. It also changes the break too much in 1 Pocket and Straight pool IMO.

I like it, BUT.............

DCP - I like it, BUT whats wrong with the traditional Green?
I guess I am just one of the OHB's who aren't very fond of change just for change's sake.
It's kinda like Henry Ford said - "CARS SHOULD ONLY BE BLACK".
But hey, it's your table and it looks great.

Congratulations on the new setup DCP, but I'm confused about the spot placement - Do you mean you put the 1 ball in the normal position (On the foot string line) but put the physical spot where the 9 ball goes? (Approx 5" behind the foot string line)

If so wouldn't the spot be behind to the foot string ? In your photo it appears to be in front of it.

BTW What table is that? Looks like a GC IV from the photo.

I with you on this AuntyDan, I don't get it.

Cloth does look great though.

i think he means hes putting the 1ball on the masterspot and that the 9ball then sits on the footspot, so when he breaks....the masterspot is protecting the cloth since its underneath the 1ball.

That looks like GC III to me b/c of the brass corners.
I like the green cloth though. I like green or tan colored Simonis.

gc iv's have brass corners

its a Gold Crown IV, purchased brand new from Jay Orner & Sons in Indy early January of 2003.

as most everyone knows, i always have bad luck with the break. just seems like i dont get any decent rolls, except for the rare occassion. so we decided i would break with the 9-Ball on the spot. therefore, the spot was placed up a couple of balls so the 1-Ball would sit on it during the break and not wear the spot in the cloth due to the collision.

didnt seem to work, mostly bad rolls today. plus the back of my neck is stiff and sore, it wasnt a good day today. just my luck, get beautiful new Simonis 860 Cloth, and the bad rolls continue, and a sore, stiff neck to boot.

Maybe its not the table and it is you, maybe you break isn't correct or something?

- Thanks, I thought so from how flush the pocket liners are to the tops of the pocket irons. I hear it is much better than previous GC models although apparently not still totally flush like a Diamond Pro?

As for your breaking problems a couple of questions:

1) Are you using a Sardo or other mechanically assisted rack or a normal rack?
2) How many break positions have you tried?
3) Are you trying to do a "Pro" break with a ton of follow through and body english? I've been trying to do that for years and never had any kind of consistency in controlling the cue ball, which means even a nice spread is wasted if I have no shot afterwards. I finally realized I am not and never will be an Archer or a Bustamante, so instead am using a much shorter bridge and a flat "punch" break from the first diamond in with a closed bridge on the table as opposed to a rail bridge. I find this gives me a much better chance at making the corner ball, keeping the cue ball center table, the 1 ball in the top half of the table and having a nice spread.

i dont have any problem making balls. sure, every now and then i hit a stretch where nothing drops, but thats normal.

my problem is i usually get those real tough spreads, where there's either no shot on the '1', or the '2' is at the other end of the table behind a ball with
3-4 balls in the way, or a shot on the '2', but the only chance on the '3' is a tough combo. i just dont get any decent rolls. i keep yelling at the table all the time to just "Give Me A Chance To Run Out!"

no Sardo Rack.
tried about all the different positions. different balls, tips, cues, spots, speeds, etc, etc. just 90% of the time no good rolls.

this is typical for me, oh so typical. i got tired of the '1' Ball coming down and planting itself up against the short rail off the break, thus no shot. so i knocked it off the table with my cue and yelled at it to quit going down there. so the next rack, the '1' ball goes in the side pocket, and lo and behold the '2' ball goes down flush up against the short rail with no shot. i didnt know whether to laugh or cry on that one.

err.....hmm......

My advice: Laugh!

HEHEHE :D
I've done my share of talking to balls and and occasionally begging but I can't ever remember comitting assault and battery on a 1 ball.LOL
Maybe you should immediately re-rack and take your frustration out on the 1-ball that way. :)
