New scam on Ebay

This concerns me. I was getting ready to post a stick on eBay and am now concerned that you guys will avoid my offer. I'm gonna post it on AZ and get some opinions or maybe an offer. How do you guys handle buying and selling here since I'm new. Thanks

Welcome to the forum. There is an escrow service available here,or if you feel comfortable, and you are dealing with a long time member in very good standing, send your item first.Marcus,"Fast_N_Loose" has one of the escrow services here. Also,I would recommend that you enter into selling here with the attitude, that a deal is not a deal unless/until,both parties are happy/satisfied.You will build trust and confidence this way.Even if the other party is kind of a "butt head" it is better for the seller,to suck it up,and re-list the item. It's a buyers world these days.I hope this helps you,and good luck with your sales.
Regards,Marc

since you are brand new there are a few ways to proceed.

if it's an expensive cue you can state that you are willing to use an escrow service (see sticky describing this above).

Also helpful might be if someone can vouch for you who is a known member here.

If you accept paypal payments, someone can pay you via paypal using their credit card and this can provide some comfort about doing business with you as they will have recourse, if needed.

And please describe your cue for sale in great detail to avoid any problems. Not just the specs but also the condition including any imperfections in fit, finish, repairs, and straightness both together and apart.

these should get you off to a good start.

welcome to az.

best,

You ask some good questions here. much of this post really didn't make sense to me, plus there is no "one time blah blah blah". I'd like to know the value of this claim also.

Kevin

Whoops you aren't asking any questions here. i meant this to be in response to your previous post.

If you are going to sell here and accept payments via PayPal; don't just use the email request payment button. Use Create an Invoice and that allows you to put all the information about what you are selling and the terms of your agreement on the invoice and your buyer can be reassured that everything is in order before they pay. They can even leave a note if they see an error or need to make a change.

Kevin i m only telling you what the lady told me on the phone. I bet scams go both ways buyers saying I didn't get it or I got an empty mailing tube. How is eBay supposed to decide who is telling the truth. She said since tracking says it arrived then its a one time reimbursement and it is my job to only purchase from top sellers from now on.

I quit using ebay once a cop friend explained how it and craigs list are probably the world's biggest fencing operations.

I don't want to unknowingly buy hot goods.

There is more than one way to skin a cat. Since you are dealing with a scumbag why don't you try this: Assuming you paid thru paypal. Open a dispute but instead of saying the item was not received open the case for "Item was not as described", ie didn't match description. warped, damaged, make up something. Paypal will rule in your favor and force the seller to accept a return. Of course the seller is not going to complain because he is trying to scam you anyway. Once paypal completes there investigation they will tell you it ok for you to send the item back. Send him a box full of hot air with something heavier to match the weight of what a cue would weigh and send it with signature confirmation of course. Once the package has been updated as returned you can call paypal and the will put thru the refund regardless of if the scumbag has any $ in the account or not under the paypal buyer protection. I am not an advocate of normally doing things underhanded but why should you be the one
holding the bag. GL.

A while back I was on the wrong side of a similar deal to what you described. I sent buyer Schon with three shafts, told me he was very happy, and then he claimed not as described.
Credit card re-funded and he send me back a $10 cue. Got me for $700. :(

Frey sneakie

If you didn't buy from Bob Frey or GKOOP how can you expect to be satisfied 100% every time? No need to gamble on a Cue like that. Buy new. No worries no problems. You get what you pay for.

If I have any doubts about a seller I'll use my credit card when making a paypal purchase..
Most CC companies are very good about refunding charges when fraud is involved..

I use cc in all occasions. You never know when any company will go under. If you get caught in wrong time, it will take time to sort out everything. Credit is adjusted immediately, you don't lose the use of your money for past the time that you that you contact the cc company. And money has a value of time.

Sorry for you loss. This is another example of how ebay/paypal protects scammers
at the expense of vunerable sellers.

If ebay had any investigative prowess they would not have allowed this scam to
succeed in the first place.
I think being honest and following the rules is normally the best course of action.
However, It is not the op buyers fault that ebay/paypal is set up to protect buyers and
bends sellers over at every opportunity. Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.

I agree with your point, I am just saying that it is normally the honest guy trying everything to get satisfaction that seems to get screwed in the end. Pun intended

Rule number one

ALWAYS BUY FUNDING WITH A CREDIT CARD
Then you can call them to initiate a chargeback. It pulls thfm money from Paypal and then they go after the seller for it. No Paypal dispute, they favor sellers always. You credit card company decides the dispute. You never lose.

I only deal with buyer's and seller's on ebay that have 100% positive feedback.

I agree that 100% is great but there are a lot of great sellers that don't have 100%, there are plenty of Aholes out there that will leave negative feedback if something didn't cross the planet in 2 days.

I always take the time to read the actual negative feedback, often times you see stupid negative comments like "Item wasn't the shade of red that i thought it was going to be" or similar things that do not mean the seller is bad.
