Steve Booth from OnePocket.org asked me to put together a little slide show/video from photos that were taken at the last One Pocket Hall of Fame Dinner. He sent along a .wav file with the audio from the event. I used some of the photos and about 3 minutes of the 81 minute audio file to create a slide show for YouTube. Steve may also embed the show on his website.

Here’s the link to the YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20xZ1qYNZGE

When I listened to the audio from the dinner, the thought I had again and again was, “Man, I wish I had been there!” It was a very well done event with everything from laughter to tears. I hope I captured the flavor of the evening with my slide show. Steve told me that reservations are still available for the 2007 dinner to be held Tuesday, January 9, 2007 in the Label Room at the Executive Inn Hotel. The doors will open at 6PM with a cash bar on the premises, and a rare display of One Pocket memorabilia, including tournament posters, photos, trophies and more. Dinner will be served at about 7PM, followed by the induction presentations.
This year’s One Pocket inductees are:

* Melvin ‘Strawberry’ Brooks
* John ‘Rags’ Fitzpatrick (posthumous)
* Hayden Lingo (posthumous)

In addition, three new inductees will be inducted into the Bank Pool Hall of Fame:
* Vernon Elliott
* Javanley ‘Youngblood’ Washington
* John ‘Cannonball’ Chapman (posthumous)

Anyone who loves one-pocket, bank pool, and the great players of these two games should give some thought to attending next year’s dinner IMHO. (Yep, I’m a shameless pimp for the HOF dinner!:D )

Gee, I can't spell....

I asked for help in catching any mistakes in the slide show/video and just noticed a spelling mistake in the title of the original post: "side show" instead of "slide show." Of course, as you may have suspected, this reply to my own post is really just a way of bumping it back to the top. I'm hoping that some of you guys go to OnePocket.org, click on the Hall of Fame link, and reserve a seat at the dinner. The food probably won't be that good, but I think it's a worthy cause.:)

Bill, with those guys, Side Show, is quite appropriate.

Hey, the food actually got good reviews last year. It is something called their "executive buffet plus", which includes a variety of salads, three different main course items, a variety of side dishes and desserts -- and of course since it is a buffet you can tailor the serving sizes to your needs and tastes :)

Besides the main show -- the players being inducted and hosts Grady & Freddy -- the 'side show' is also real entertaining :) By that I mean the incredible variety of characters among the guests. Of course all the previous One Pocket and Bank Pool HOF players are invited, and generally come, like Efren, Danny D, Ronnie Allen and Bugs, plus guys like 'Cardone, Jay Helfert, Greg Sullivan and Mark Griffin, Harry Platis, Pat Fleming and on and on. Jimmy Fusco has called about coming this year, too. I believe this is his first year at DCC.

The tables are round and seat 9 people each, and these guys are pretty spread around so you never know who you could end up sitting with.

It will sell out!

The first year dinner sold out all 50 seats. The next year's capacity was increased more than double to 120, and it too, sold completely out. This year, we are returning to the same room of 120 (which I think is nowhere near enough). Everybody who was there last year had a great old time. Dont compare this to the BCA HOF Dinner. I attended the 2005 edition in Vegas. I fell asleep at the table, that's how boring it was. This HOF is definitely not boring! We drink, we eat, and we cut up Jackpots and everybody has fun. All I can say is dont miss it and make your reservations early because there will be no tickets available on site.

See you there,
The Beard

I'm going to try to make this one...
