new snazzy pool related magazine...

Aside from the questionable tasteless content, it is very poorly designed. Just ugly! Though I am not a fan of Maxim, it is a well designed magazine. This reminds me of those horrible low budget porn newspapers they use to sell out of machines when I was a kid.
It will do nothing to elevate our sport and the very idea of a "Men's" Pool Magazine, is archaic.

Rough crowd. Football and basketball have their beer and cheerleaders. Girls need to be involved if anything big is to happen in pool. And hot chicks sell. It's a tried and true marketing scheme.

The difference is that football and basketball are played by men and it's fans are predominantly men. (I know about the WNBA, but lets be real)

The most organized and successful side of professional pool right now is the WPBA. And to the average fan, the WPBA is the face of pool because they see it on tv. The average pool fan does not think Johnny Archer or Ralf Souquet when they think of a pool player. They think Jeanette Lee and maybe Allison Fisher.

Does it really make sense to start a new venture, competing with the three already established magazines, that denigrates the most successful aspect of the game and it's face to the average fan?

I would support chippendales at wpba events.

Pool needs to bring some excitement to the table. I don't think TV is necessarily the right way to go. Pool is meant to be played, not watched. I can't even watch pool on TV anymore. Even when I watch the champs play, all I feel like doing is getting a table and knocking some around.

It is a well known fact that girls in skimpy clothing attract men. If you can ever find something that attracts women just as well, please let me know. Since pool is a players sport, it needs to attract players. Getting people through the door is the first step. Girls help out a lot in that department. Eh...but what do I know?

A magazine is NOT:

Stealing articles from other magazines and sites
Stealing copyrighted photographs
Misspelled words and bad grammar
Stealing your magazine name from an already established men's magazine
Faking advertisements from businesses

So basically, it's just one big mess of stolen content

Their articles are taken from other websites.

The photographs they are using are copyrighted, one I specifically recognise from Limited Brands, and an email was sent to their my contact with their legal counsel regarding its unauthorised usage.

It is full of bad grammar and misspelled words. Even billiards is misspelled.

Maxim is registered by Alpha Media Group. They are in no way associated with this "Maxim Billiards Magazine" and I use the term magazine lightly. What they did is ILLEGAL. (I informed their legal department as soon as I saw the first link.)

I'm pretty sure Simonis did not condone having their product associated with condoms. I wonder if Aramith knows that they "advertised" there, as well.

EDITED TO ADD: It's also written like a 5-year-old.

I just checked it out about 30 mins ago and seen a few members that I knew and joined up . Then read this whole thread and im not sure I should have joined . I support AZB 100% and I kinda feel dumb for registering over there now:(

This sport has a hard enough time getting recognition because of the past. Most of us are trying to improve the sport and out look on it. But when you put something like this out its degrading. You wouldn't see this kind of stuff going on with Golf. Sex does sell but at what price. Also putting minors in this kind of mag along with the adds and their insinuations is wrong. I thought we had gotten past the caveman style but I guess you, my dear are a caveman in your thinking. Women don't like to be down graded like that. You may think its great but the women that do that are very sad to me. Its more than a mans sport too whether you like it or not. You wouldn't see the most respected women in pool doing that.

The more I think about this goofy thing, the more I am convinced that it is simply a former user here wanting to stir up the pot even in his absence.

No person, in their right mind, would think that it was a money making venture to create a new billiards magazine in the current economic climate.

The amount of work and costs involved would keep a project like this in the red for quite some time.

And even if it was just being used as a vehicle to promote his own tour, it would certainly not bring a positive light to his tour or sponsors.

Personally, I think we are being had here.

I posted it earlier that it was "The Phoenix" who created that fake mag last month and posted it on here. And now it seems like he and MJ (if not the same person) created a whole new forum for themselves.

I read some of the forum posts on MXM (or whatever it is called) and decided it is not the kind of place I would want to hang out. I am far from being a prude but I find their approach unappealing. With luck it will drag away those who have similar tastes making AZB all that much better.

I do not know why some of the long time posters and the pros seem to be absent here on AZB and assume that it will all sort itself out. I note that with the exception of Blackjack and a few others no one of importance to me is "over there."

I believe they are going to have an expose on how terrible the Great Southern Billiard Tour is in their next issue.

I'm sure there will be articles on the errs of Mark Griffin's ways too!

I think AZhousepro is right. We are being played. There is just no way I figure that someone with any respect for the game would do this along with the economy.

And gnatnoop I have more respect for the sport and how we handle ourselves. You and anyone else can state and think what you want. It only bothers me that someone who loves the sport would want it downgraded so much by such cheap tactics. But from you avatar I notice you really don't have any respect for women.

Everyone has to make a choice on what they like and dislike, just seems like the majority would rather hang out here than play games with sleazy mag issue.

Just my opinon.
