New Tiger T.I.M. tip shaper

scary

You are right, Joey - it might be scary. But I do hundreds of tips a year on my "Cue Smith" just using a razor blade for trimming and shaping. It just seems natural because that's the way I have always done it. Myabe I'm lucky that I can still count to ten :-)

No, I was referring to the router that close to the chuck.
He spun the chuck the wrong way.
I dunno why he did not just line up that bearing to the ferrule , pull pack towards him then go towards the tip.
Instead of pulling the saddle towards the chuck.

I use a razor blade too. Much further away from the chuck.
I tape the top 3rd of the blade where I hold it.
I don't do it too fast. I let the tip peel easily.
Sheldon showed it to me and I have not gone back to toolbit since.

tips

Yea - taping it is a good idea but I never seem to take the time ;-(
Most of the time I am hurrying because they are sitting there watching and have others "in the queue"... I setup at a pool hall and they are sitting there waiting on me to finish. The main thing I try to do is when I start using the blade, I must block out everything else and pay very close attention to what is happening.
So far, so good ;-)

I think the real scarey part is going that close to the ferrule with a 30,000 rpm cutter:eek: One slip the wrong way and your now shaping the ferrule to a nice nickel radius

Get this i contacted them a couple weeks back they want $900 for the setup and $225 i think it was for the cutter. Are they out of thier freakin minds?

Did u whip out the checkbook and sent it to them? :D
I'd be shocked if they sold one.

Is this how you should really re-tip a cue?

Could anyone tell me if this is really the best technique to trim doem a tip?

Wondering what type of knife he is using to trim seems real sharp though.

Any input on the right techniques to trim a tip would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

I have always thought that getting the end of the ferrule cut perfectly flat and 90 deg to the center line of the cue was important when installing a tip.
I dont care how steady your hand is it will never come out as precise as a lathe tool!

Different strokes for different folks.

I noticed on the video it may be the camera angle but it appears that where the ferrule and shaft meet up it could use a bit of work. Looks as it does not transition smooth.

How about no delrin or nylon collet on the shaft protecting it from jaw marks?
