Seriously though, I think that most folks put too much emphasis on tips and even equipment in general. It is amazing what a straight stroke can do to improve your game. I was just discussing this exact subject with a cuemaker last night and he made the statement that he's played with $17 dollar cues that played great.
After playing pool for almost 20 years, I continue to believe that knowledge, confidence and a straight stroke are the ingredients for success. All else is minutiae.
I think you may be misunderstanding my point.. I wasnt trying to say one was better than the other (I do have an opinion, but it's merely that, an opinion...). . My point is only that they are both good tips in their own right, but just play much different than One another, and comparing them as the same is simply incorrect information..
I do however agree with your other point, to a degree.. If you know what your doing, and execute a good stroke consistently, you can Use just about anything, and I mean anything (we all have our own personal stories on such exploits, and mine is that I've beaten people with a chalked up tree branch from outside before) .. But, at a certain level of play, equipment can/does come into play, also to a degree...
Tom and I started out on a bad note when he started the Ultra Skin tips. It was both our fault due to different prespectives. We have since made peace and I have bought a mixed batch of his tips. I have 9 out of 10 happy customers, and the tenth's only complaint was that with a HH on a breaker, he couldn't get english on the break...but this same guy hits so hard, he has actually broken a cueball, and at that speed, english is not even an option. I also take about a 1/16 or so off the tip when installing, and it does make a difference. I am in constant contact of most of my customers and have had Zero complaints of mushrooming. One thing to note, is the installer has to know their client and matching the tip to their style of play is important. Just because the customer says he wants a soft, doesn't mean he's right. I know most of the players I do tips for and more times than not, I put a different hardness than they thought they needed and they end up doing better afterwards. Putting a soft on a cue when the player hits like he's breaking, on every shot, isn't the fault of the tip when it mushrooms.....I have customers that want a soft, but they hit hard, and I usually convince them to trust me and try a med, or hard tip. I offer free replacement of a tip if they don't like it, no matter how many times it needs to be replaced, I don't have to replace tips very often, and trust me, I will if needed, a happy customer is a good one.I have actually converted quite a few Kamui users that are happier with these tips than they were with Kamui.....especially the price, but they swear they hit the same or better....

Rodney Morris shoots with an Ultraskin Soft. I think he hits more balls than anyone on the planet. I haven't heard a single complaint from him. I put it on his cue, by the end of the night he was asking about a sponsorship. There's only a few ways to get a tip to mushroom, either you hit too hard or you break with it. Or maybe even both. The quality is there, just because it doesn't fit the way you may shoot doesn't make it a horrible tip. IMHO
I didn't say your site claimed your tips didn't mushroom nor did I mention anything about not chalking. I simply stated my experience with 1 of your tips I had installed on my cue, as well as a friends experience which apparently was a much more reliable source of information than what I gathered from these forums.
I do not have a need for a $25 piece of chalk nor do I have a need for an over priced scuffer. I only enjoy a tip that I can hit with that doesn't need to be reshaped once a week. I gladly have found a few, but I am always up to try something new.
All the reviews I saw before purchasing 1 of your tips was positive so I went with the mindset that that many people couldn't be wrong. I had a different experience with your tips and I'm simply relaying my experience to these fine forums.
You lost me here, I have no idea what your talking about. Maybe you're referring me saying that the playability of your tips was adequate.
I routinely tell people that ask me for a tip replacement that Ultras are 1/2 the price of Kamui,and every bit as good. Last night,I did 11 tips for the night at a tournament. The place sells cues and has some Kamui SS on hand. 2 customers paid for the Kamui and brought it to me,the other 9 all wanted the Ultra.
I USE them,and wouldn't lie to a fellow player if I thought they were bunk,or if I thought Kamui was superior.
Like every one else,I think they play best when thinned down some,and they cut a little cleaner when barely moist. However,I run into customers that WANT it tall in some cases,to give their tip maximum lifespan.
I've used then since I came out,and need more before my next tournament,simple and plain as Mary Jane

a couple of days ago I ordered a medium tip.....In the past I have used le pro, kamui soft (blk), moori, onyx sniper tips. hope the medium is the right choice and not soft. I play some 14.1 but mostly 9 and 10 ball. if I were mostly 14.1 I would have gone with soft, we will see. looking forward to trying the ultraskin and price was not relavent.
