Hey guys and gals, I just thought of something. Everyone here talks about their custom cases every now and then and we see and read about the following custom case makers:

-Whitten
-Ron Thomas
-Jack Justice
-Dennis Swift

But I have never heard anyone talk about or show pics of the companies I have in the title box. I know and have seen NYCCC in person at Valley Forge and I've only seen OQC on the internet. Just wondering if anyone has used their product and what they think about them.

I'm not sure if I want my first case to be a Dennis Swift or Ron Thomas, but if could get both at the same time, it'd be a done deal. Note to those who play the game of pool or like to collect cases. If you don't get anything else, make sure, very, very sure you set some money aside to get a Ron Thomas case(s). For the collectability if nothing else!

I have my Cokers on the way right now, so I can't put any money into a custom case yet. I have to suck it up and get vinyl case or something just to hold them for now. :( Mark my words, I will have them...it's only a matter of time. Oh yeah, for you all who don't think that Ron Thomas can't "bring it!" check out this pic from billiardcue.com (Yes. That IS real ivory top and bottom...WHAT!):

I have a black ostrich and tan ostrich OnQ 3x6 case being built right now. I will post pics as soon as I get it.

I love my Ron Thomas case. Classic styling and simplicity at its best. Someone listed a buncha of them on eBay. Thank goodness I got mine awhile ago at a much cheaper price, whew!

Is there a web site for New York Cue Case? I used to have it in my favorites but can't find it anymore. Thanks

I like the appearance of your Ron Thomas case. Can you provide a link to his website?

I rarely comment on threads at AZ for fear that I will be soon be entering the "cyber ring of doom" and duking it out with the "kings of keyboards" over A PERSONAL OPINION. Kinda reminds me of days when I was married. So rather than rouse the feathers, I just read and rarely reply.
But I just couldn't resist replying to this thread.

This link http://www.susiecuebilliards.com/onqcase/comments.htm
contains unsolicited comments from ONQ case buyers that were forwarded to me from Garth Bair at ONQ Cases to post on my web site. I have had my 2 cases now for about two years and they both look as good as the day they arrived.
Some personal input about ONQ Case Co. & Garth Bair that you should know:

If you are not 100% happy with the case that Garth builds for you after you get it. It can be returned for a replacement case or a refund, whatever you want. (Garth pays the shipping.. #$%^&*(*&) I don't know of any other cuemaker that offers this type of guarantee.
The pouches do not need any foam inside them to keep them from collapsing when they are empty or not filled to capacity.
Handsome high quality latches imported from Italy.
The leathers used on ONQ cases will not scar as easily as some others if the case accidentally bumps somthing or is dropped.

IMHO...you get a lot bang for buck with a ONQ case and service after the sale is paramount. Garth will go the extra mile if necessary to satisfy even the perfectionist.
For the cue collector/dealer.... Garth builds an awesome 10 x 20 case at an unbelievable low price.

I am confident that your first ONQ Case experience will be a good one and probably lead you into a 2nd ONQ case.

T,

There's no website as far as I know. I think Thomas is currently working on one. Roy Malott over at IndyQ is his dealer and has a bunch of his cases in stock in several configurations and leathers/skins. Check it out!

I'm not sure if NY cases are still in business, I haven't seen them in a while at the shows. I think they had some good ideas as far as special pockets and features, but the problem for me was they were just to big and bulky and weighed a ton. I also think Ron Thomas cases are nice and simple and I love the old style, but he was a complete nightmare to work with and a real bad business man, almost as bad as Dennis Searing (almost) SO I won't deal with him anymore. IMO cases are all about the looks, whatever look you like should dictate who you buy, I personally love the Justis style and Jack is great to work with, although there are a few changes I think he needs to make and I know he is making some improvments as we type. I don't have any experience with OnQ but after hearing all the good words about Garth (whoever that is?)I may put him on my list.

Jim

You've got a list?

who whould have thunk it!?!

BTW I just aquired a Thomas 1x2... :D

Ok...OnQ Cases is on the map...cool. Does anyone have a CLUE what's going on with NYC Co.? I mean, I have NEVER heard anyone say or ask anything about them...period! Are they THAT bad?!?

Like I said, I've seen their products in person at Expo, and the looked nice to me, especially the hidden pocket feature. I just like traditional cases like Swift and Thomas. It doesn't mean that I'd never get one of their cases or anything. So what's the deal? Does anyone know anything about them at all?

Vivian V on the WPBA is carrying a NY case with cow fur. She always carried her jump butt seperately. May be the case has no room for her jump butt?

Jack makes the best case in my opinion, and he is so easy and nice to deal with. Each case is handcrafted by him indivually, and they are all collectible.

If any of you are looking for a case, you may consider waiting for a couple months and then check back at Jack Justis's site.

Here's another player in the custom cue case market. I recently saw two examples of Jim Murnak's work in Paul Rubino's possession. Very nice and obviously well constructed. The liner interestingly enough is NOT felt, but cordura nylon instead. Not cheap though....
