Im thinking of flyin in to new york for the seminole event spet3-6 in west hempstead. I have been checking flights and rental car prices etc. Seems like there are a lot of options and the best is either isp or long island airport or hpn westchester.
Has anyone flown to etiher of these they are both about 30-40 mins on a map but what is traffic like? thanks

Flown in to Islip more than a few times, and it's a great airport. Traffic will depend on the time of day, but westbound traffic on the LIE isn't too bad in the evenings (morning rush hour is a different story). If you get a chance, check out The Poolroom in Bellmore. Richie runs a good joint and hits em pretty sporty himself.

HPN is 35 minutes without traffic. Avoid 10AM to 2PM on the weekend and 3:30-7:30pm weekdays and 45 minutes is pretty likely. Friday evening would be the worst.

Kennedy is closest by far but Rental cars will be more expensive. If you could fly into Kennedy and get a ride to the pool room, you could probably rent a car around there much cheaper. Try www.Carrentals.com. You can compare everybody's rates and get a reservation without giving your credit card.

Unless you're talking about flying in your own plane, then I fully agree with Nostroke.
You have tons of transportation option from JFK. West Hempstead is very close to New York City, and there are many bus lines running through.

I ran a quick search on Google maps, and it gave me a couple of subway, train, and bus directions from JFK airport to Raxx Pool room. Maybe not need a car rental, and just get by by taxi.

I like having a rental car and everything is way cheaper to fly into westchester. Its a holiday weekend and all the prices are jacked up

The NYC 9ball championship is the weekend before at Skyline in Brooklyn as well, if you're able to stay the whole week.

Flown into all of these in my time and Westchester is my favorite from Atlanta. It's so quick and easy to get in and out of, depending upon time of day of course. Car rental here is much cheaper too normally, last couple of times we have had a nice upgrade of car too for free!

Hows it going, James (we met at the SVB v. Donny game)?

I'm sure you checked all the major airports i.e. La Guardia/LGA, JFK, and Newark/EWR. If your best airfare is into Westchester, I'd say book it. All the airports mentioned are anywhere from .5 hour to 1 hour away from Raxx. IMO, who cares, since you will have a car, especially if the difference in airfare makes it worthwhile. Just make sure you have GPS with you (or rent one at teh car place). Driving around the NYC metro area can be a lil hairy if youre not familiar. Lastly, try to avoid the LIE (Long Island Expressway), going eastbound, on Friday afternoon. You will be fighting Hamptons-bound traffic for the holiday weekend, on top of "leaving work early" traffic. The "LIE" is just that, a lie. It's a parking lot at certain times.

Raxx is a great room. The owner, Holden, is a player and is a great guy. Normally, I'd offer to give you a ride there, but I'm not gonna make this one. If I could, I'd play "Eye of the Tiger" like, 10 times in a row for ya, when you are in a match.

Eric >have fun

"hits em pretty sporty" is one hell of an understatement. The guy is awesome.
