I came across newspaper.com the other day. It has a large database of old clippings. Found some great pool article from my area of southern ohio, Cincinnati.

I just recently found that site. I've been trying to uncover the history of the early US Open 9-Ball tournaments in Virginia. That was a time when the pool mags were a little sparse.

The site is incredible. I've been searching all morning. Lots of pool history from my local area but also national. Found Articles about Ginacue, Balabushka etc.

If you find some interesting clips, the Pool History sub-forum is a good place to put them. There is a thread in there about Balabushka.

I remember when the "Bowlers Journal and Billiard review" or the "National Billiard News" with it's misspellings and stories that said continued on page 6 and the ending was nowhere to be found, would arrive at the pool room.

We Wore them out reading and rereading them we were do desperate for anything about pool.

If ABC WW of Sports did anything on pool as bad as it was all chopped up we were transfixed on the 19 inch B&W tv taking on every shot.

When the sign went up Mosconi, Balsis or Caras we're coming to town we could not wait. When I started driving and had a car I didn't have to wait. I would drive hundreds of miles to see them.

I don't think today's fans and players know how good they have it. We had very little idea what was going on in the world of pool. Little was ever covered in local newspapers.

Thing is, I think there was a time maybe a 100 years ago pool and billiards was front page news.

You all likely have full access to newspapers.com and other historical archives from your local library's webpage. Newspaperarchive.com is another good resource that often has more (or at least different) content than newspapers.com.

Harpers and Illustrated Science are great sources pre 1900. I did research a lot of newspaper microfilm but the info is very sparse. Not really worth the time spent { imo and I have a lot of hours invested. } unless you have something specific.

I tried looking through my Lexis/Nexis feed for you a few weeks ago. Then life got busy. If I can find anything, I'll send it your way. I'll even go snap some pics of microfiche if needed.
