Nice Poolroom in Raleigh, NC

I'm down here in North Carolina visiting a friend, and since she lives in Chapel Hill and works at the mall in Raleigh I went into the city with her a couple of days so I could use her car and find some things to do. Being as my knowledge of the area is limited I was looking for a poolroom that would be close to where she works. I found one called Snookers that I thought was quite good. It's a classy place with nice furniture, a full bar, 10 or 12 9 ft tables covered in Simonis 860, full length mirrors on the walls, and Brunswick Centennials for every table. Also, after I was done playing the bartender gave me some good advice for food and other things to do. The place deserves a little plug so if you're in the area check it out.

If you get the chance, check out Babineau's on Buck Jones Road in Cary...no doubt one of the nicest rooms in the state. Play to Win billiards and Browns Billiards in Raleigh are pretty nice, as is Mojo's in Apex. For action, go to the Brass Tap.

Snookers is a great place top drink but their worn out Gandys suck. Babineaus, Play to win or pantanas have the best equipment. Also the lights in Snookers are brutal. After playing with the big Diamond lights or Brunswick eqivalent the 3 or 4 lights w/ nicotine stained shades are unacceptable. Also the reason for the mirrors is in the old days it was a health club & someone was murdered on premises.

If you have some time you should make the drive from Chapel Hill to Greensboro. I went to Shooters again last night and it was alive with action. There were at least four or five tables with players matchin up by eleven o'clock. There was quite a crowd with all the action you could want!! Cudos to Eric and Trevor they seem to be doing very well and enjoying themselves at the same time. I may go up again soon, if your interested you can PM me I live in Chapel Hill also..

babineaus - plenty of league crowd most nights. Huge pockets, tables not too clean, cushions play o.k. Only one very nice table. probably could find $5-20 action any night of the week.

brass taps - good tables, lots of action, but mostly large pocketed. A bunch of bar tables too. Table 12 is one of the most perfectly set up tables I have ever played on! Perfect cushions, and nice tight pockets that rarely bobble the ball. Dont' gamble too high until you get to know the table because they all have their quirks and the locals know every inch of them. you can find solid 8 ball, 9 ball, and one pocket action any night of the week.

Oscar's Q club - tight gandy tables well maintained, but no action. Tuesday night 9-ball handicap tourney draws 20-30 ppl every week

jump shots - mix of great and not so great tables. nearly constant 10-ball ring game going on the main table, good for spectators and shooting the shit. not so welcoming to "outsiders." You could probably also find a one-pocket or straight pool game here.

Mojo's - skip it unless you already have your playing partner with you, or you want to get a few hours of solo practice in. They've basically turned to poker and a healthy foosball league to keep the place going. Good tables though.
