Nick Varner at Felt

Did Nicky tell his favorite pool action story?

Cornbread Red came to Owensboro and played a guy named Cornflakes...
....he barbecued him.

So, a few months later Red walks back into the room, looking for action.

Someone says "There's that cereal killer again!"

Here are a couple of pictures.

You can't tell from the pictures but a great crowd considering the snow storm maybe 100 in attendance and it seemed that everyone had fun. The great people at Str8-Shots Kimberly and Marc really went out of their way to make us welcome and make it happen. Samm Diepp Vidal worked her ass off to make it a good event and reaise money for the BEF. The staff at Felt billiards also were great. Thanks to everyone who came out and suppoorted us and the Billiard Education Foundation.

At one point we had roughly 140 people in the place which wasn't too shabby considering the snow storm outside.

We had:

30 kids in the juniors event
We qualified 6 kids to attend the 2013 BEF Junior Nationals
Taren (boys 18&under)
Josh (boys 14&under)
Tyler (boys 14&under)
Nick (boys 14&under)
Adrienne (girls 18&under)
Aryanna (girls 14&under)
And awarded $700 in academic scholarships

32 adults in the Open event
(run by Jim Calderon, Thank You!)
1st Place Robert Rodrieguez $485.00
2nd Place Marc Vidal $325.00
3rd Place Mark Haddad $200.00
4th Place Danny Smith $130.00
5th Place Melissa Little $80.00
5th Place Greg Romero $80.00
7th Place Jose Cruz $40.00
7th Place Doug James $40.00
4 way tie for Top Lady split $80.00
Aimee Peterson
Terry Duncan
Carol James
Brandie Rejent

And one large Jabba the SnowHutt

Both pros won their respective Locals vs. Pros challenge matches
One-Pocket: Nick Varner (2) def. Mark Haddad (1)
10-Ball: Thorsten Hohmann (11) def. Marc Vidal (10)
(the races were initially set to be longer but by that point they were both so beat from me "slave driving" them, as per NV)

We raised over $1,600 for the Billiard Education Foundation and the kids of the Denver Junior Billiards League raised nearly $800 for their trips to Junior Nationals.

All in all, it was a great success! We do plan to bring Nicky back, maybe with Johnny or Darren next time, and hopefully when the weather is better. :)

Finalizing the complete write up today. Thanks to everyone who braved the storm to attend on Saturday!

Complete photo gallery can be found at: http://www.str8-shots.com A HUGE THANKS to str8-shots.com for helping to make the entire event possible!!! They are two bleeding hearts that are on the brink of resuscitating the billiard scene in Colorado.

Great post, thanks. It was a great time. A little side note about that young man on the left in the picture above with his hands in his pockets. His name is Nick, he plays *very* well, and in his first match of the tournament I witnessed him do something truly inspiring. After the break in his second game, he ran the one, two, four and five. He looked over and noticed he had forgotten about the 3 ball. Although his opponent wasn't even watching (they are 11 year olds after all), Nick picked up the cue ball, walked over to his opponent and handed it to him. Even to the most jaded of poolhall junkies, that was inspiring.

Nick sounds like a good kid, I wonder if he's in the market for a new cue>>
Brandi & Sami look cold
Wish I could of been there, I missed out on some fun.

Peace
Ted

Thanks for the pictures and recap of the events (skierlawyer and Samm). Congrats to Robert for winning the open against a strong field. The snow kept me from driving down from Fort Collins, but so happy it was a success.

The folks at Str8shots are the the best!

Nick is a great kid! And he has SO much natural talent it's amazing!
Yes, Samm was cold and so was Kimberly (not Brandie) ;)

Sorry you missed it!

Smart man, avoided a 20 car pile up.

Honestly, if I could of just driven to Felt to have some fun I would of toughed out the drive.
In that I would of had to either lie about it, or drive to Highlands Ranch, pick up Andi, drive to Felt, later back to Highlands Ranch,
and eventually back to Evergreen, I would of done it.
Welcome to being in a relationship>>
This relationship has defeated the purpose of being a poolplayer, and having any fun during my unofficial retirement.
I'm glad that everyone else had time.

It's all about the music.
