What are you gonna do when you get old???

I will think of that when i reach to an adult age,for now its Young Master.

Just like the WPC 2005,Wu Chia Ching. He cant be "Little Genius" forever.

So i think he will think of a different name when he reach to an adult age, just like i will.

Regards...

If you make up your own nickname, chances are you will be the only one using it.

Davey "Coolest Guy on Earth By Far" Gravy

I love ur nickname.Long and nice.

Just like Alex Lely, "The Plague From the Hague"

Regards...

Nickname would be: Crazyman. It is a very long story, but lets just say I do Crazy Stuff now and again....... ;)

Mine was the "mullet wrapper" as a young'un. Didn't know you could come up with your own nickname.

nickname now is probably "old fart".

But then I am not a pro.

I'm with the mindset that a nickname has to be "put" on you, you can't make up your own. Or else you start sounding like those guys in that movie "Crouching Tiger" I'm "iron arms" Lee, or Shun "big balls" Woo. Kinda sounds contrived you know?.......Later.....G

BTW, I have no nickname since moving to Florida from Pa.....

For years, starting in the late 60's I was called Chicago. Even now I still get called that name occasionally as some people never knew my real name. I got the nickname because at the time I could play some pool and we played a lot of poker and when it was my deal I always chose High/Low Chicago.

Lunchmoney

nickname

well I have had the "stick" as anickname for many years, I think I was,12-14 yrs a skinney basketball player, and pool player and picked up the name/ It has stood the age of time as I am noe 67 yrs and still am called "stick" most people, dont know my real name. "shoot Straight" STICK :p :p :p

BLINDMAN...(you'll get more money matches)

i dunno what handle i'll use when i become a pro, but people here at the poolhall call me "turtle" because of my slow play. but, i'm working on my pace right now, so maybe, i'll be the "hare" next time.

reading drivermaker's response made me laugh cause i remember a pro (lee van corteza) with a similar nickname. his nickname was "van-van" which means stupid in english. he got a lot of money matches with that handle until he got famous when he played in several big events with tv coverage. :D
well, it was good while it lasted :D :D :D

"never play poker with a man named Ace"

Hard to say that I was ever a pro. I made my living shooting pool when jobs were hard to come by but I have never shot major tournaments. Nicknames came and went as I moved around however most folks that knew me only knew me as "Hu".

If I were to pick my own nickname it would probably be something like "Shaky" or "Shaky Jake" for obvious reasons. "I'm just an old man with the back gone, the eyes shot, and a gimp in my gettyup!" "Well yeah, I guess I might live long enough to play you one or two games. What ya gonna spot me?"

If you get to the point that you are fishing for major sponsors a trick sounding nickname can be an asset I suppose because public image is all important. Otherwise, I think it far better to sneak along under the radar even in competition. Different form of competition but I beat about thirty shooters awhile back, sneaking onto a scene where I didn't show up but about once a year. I watched the regulars and young pups comparing notes and checking which of them had the highest score. When it was announced that Hu had taken first place the result was universal, "Who the hell is that?" That was worth a lot more than the few dollars I won. I still laugh about them getting blindsided.

Hu

hehe... nickname... I'm no pro, but close friends know me as tiger or samurai. But I'm sure there will be more as I get better.

Yeh,
You will get named by your pool buddies (not necessarily your close friends) and it may not be as noble as "tiger". There is someone on this forum who brought up mine awhile back that started 50 years ago - one his Dad knew. "Little Jackie Madden" - it had nothing to do with my pool. It was from my mom calling the pool room and the announcement "little Jackie Madden your Mom is calling you" - so best of luck in your nickname.

Dont take this the wrong way but young master sounds like something coming out of Yoda's mouth. Also I have to agree with a previous poster who said to the effect, "You can't makeup your own nickname, it has to be something put on you." I had a habit when I was in the Navy of giving everyone nicknames and they stuck. Because...

A) There was humor in the name or it fit a description of that person to a T.
B) The nicknameee liked it as well.

If you truly like that nickname (Young Master), sit from the outside, looking in. Would you think that anyone would call that nickname an accurate description of you? Or would they be more inclined to call you "VINCE?" I guess what I'm getting at is you could in a roundabout way sow the seeds of a nickname of your choice. But you have to see the real you from the eyes of others.

OK, I'll answer your question. No, I don't have a nickname. Of course people try but they recognize after a time it just don't fit.

Does yours really fit?
