HI all,

its late, and i havent posted since some days, but ive got a new silly solly question. How do pooplayers get there nick or middlenames?

is this something u can descide for yourself?
or something u give friends options and they choose one?
or friends give options and u chose one?
is there a certain level u need to have to get a nickname?
does the nickname has to be poolrelated? or could it just be how your character is?

i dont have one, and just wondering how i could get one... is this something u ask other people or just comes naturally? is this just a name u invent when u are on a hustling tour so no one knows your real name and adress.?

ow btw: for those who always ask info how im doing. Not very well actually, made a 15feet fall yesterday and landed on my hips. first 2 hours where SO scary as i didnt had feelings or could move the lower left part of my body. After some hours in the hospital it seems theres nothing broken, just some nerves blocked and muscles in my ass who got **** up. i can walk again (painfully, but the drugs are helping) and i should get 100% recovered in some time. Just need to slowly walk again etc. I do miss pool :'( ive spend my days on forums, pc pool games, reading books, watching dvd's and it just cant fill my apetite for pool :( Really hope ill be able to walk again and play pool again. This really is the one thing that makes me happy, and its VERY hard to have to lay down all day when u only want to shoot some racks.
 
Well there is a guy where I play a lot, who I have nicknamed, Gleason, as he is Loud, and Very Animated like Jackie Gleason's Character in the Honeymooners a 1950 Sit Com about a Bus Driver, Ralph Crandon, and his lifes adventures.

If Ralph Crandon Played Pool this how he would act in the Pool Hall.

The guy does not know I call him Gleason, but a few of my Buds do and we all laugh about it.

Impotant things first: Geesh, I hope things turn around for you on the physical side. I played racks in my head and watched accu-stats when I had my appendix out. It helped.

Nicknames: As we have joked with Colin, and nicknames for him...you really have to let someone else give it to you, and it has to catch on. I have called Colin, Shanghai, in PM's for a while now. i always on wondered the same thing, i love Allison and Karen's nicknames. And Niels, i think his match him very well, The Terminator.

He is such a happy fun person off the table, but man his game face is ice. You gotta love that. When I first heard that was his nickname, I was like, paaalease. But it really does fit him well.
 
hiya all, thx for the reply's.

so :

1/ it seems u need to be a certain level to earn a nicknname.. U cant just pick up a cue and ask for a nickname.

2/ other people give it to u. (mostly paperwriters, friends, opponents?)

3/ you probably will get a nickname in a greath tournament or greath final, not just in a training session or in a local poolhall.

4/ not all nicknames have to be flatering... Fat xxx, slow xxx, baby face xxx, i mean.. I hope the nickname i get will be better :D


rackmsuckr and donovan, thx for the nice words. Linda gets a free kiss and donovan gets a free Belgium beer. :D Im already doing ALOT better. 5grams of heavy painkillers a day is working greath, and the other drugs for the muscles is working too. IM really feeling alot better. Should be back in the poolhall in a day or 5. (still walking like if im 95y old, but who cares.. IM ADICTED!!!) Do u think this will have any effect on my game? (havent played in 10days with the holidays, and now another 10 days from the accident.) Hope ill be back in shape soon.

It's good to hear that nothing was broken. I wish you a healthy and speedy recovery.

As for nicknames, I think it's something that people have to give you. I've known people who have tried to give themselves nicknames, but they never stick. This might come as a shock, but my nickname is actually "New Guy" :D. When I first joined a team in Hoboken a few years back, the captain would introduce me as the "New Guy Mike". For some reason it took and I'm still called that. Lately though, people have been calling me "You Suck!" :p
 
Hey Solartje, an accident is what got me IN to pool. I couldn't walk for a month after a motorcycle accident and bowling, my first love, was out of the question. So, I went to the pool hall, fell in love, and the rest is history. Get well soon and be careful with those pain-killers.:eek: Peace, John.

id like a nickname like silly solly or something like that, but my bet would be that people call me "houscue" solly. Its true though that most nicknames arent even known by the person himself... They usually are made up when a new player comes around, and people want to talk about him but dont know his name, and they call him something that they remembered from him.

There is a guy in the national tournament i call the zombie. He's always partying till 6am and doing competitions the next day at 10am, so he looks like a zombie, but he could still kick your ass while sleeping. but he dont knows im refering to him like that.

Maybe i should just ask others how they call me.

edit: feel free to find a monick for me :D

He also have Nerves of Steel, that being said i want that as a nickname hehe. He said his mental toughness is the hardest thing about him. I love to watch him and Karen at the table cause they hardly ever lose their expression and are so serious, a habit i have to pick up on.

rofl tErry, u just cant seem to get those belgium waffles out of your head do you? :D if we ever meet, ill make sure to bring some waffles for u!! . Ps about the cue i still havent descided.:p I got my 50$ j&j, and i put the custom one on hold. i just cant make up my mind. :p

yeah i love that one too colin. Especially as Gecko also means Crazy/silly. and i can use the local things (housecue's, barrtables) to blend in like a newbie.

ps scott, u can see my case on these (crappy) pictures. LOVE the Gecko's. It really :mad: frustrates me when i see people bragging about there lizard wrap!!! POOR little cute animals :( Thats even the reason why ill never buy the Mcdermoth gecko special cue. Isnt it contradictory? They sell a cue with gecko design on it , so i supose the cue is ment for people who love gecko's, but then they add the skinn of a lizard they KILLED!! to make the wrap? Its like buying a atomic bom that has: MAKE LOVE NOT WAR marked on it. ITs just so plain..... stupidity.

I think he was refering to the well wishes from myself and John (the guy that posted after me).

Hey Solly, if you really want a nick name just join the mob. They give everyone a nickname. If they see you walk now, they would probably call you "Grandma" or "Limpy". :eek: :D
