Nits, Gamblers, and Thanksgiving

I think the most overused words in pool these days are nits, nitty, gambler, having gamble etc.

Everyone who attempts to make a game is generally looking for a fair game or the best of it. Antagonists always attempt to goat someone into playing by calling them a nit. Most everyone will bet higher if they like the game or they are up. And saying you play anyone anytime but always on someone elses money to me does not mean you have gamble.

Some people think gamblers or those that have a lot of gamble should be held in high regards. However around the pool hall those that often lose because they matchup bad are also known as idiots, degenerate gamblers, etc....

Everyone has a different outlook on life and what success is and financial situation. When I was younger I used to drink a lot and would tell stories about it. My mom used to always tell me that adults just weren't impressed by that. I understand what she meant and also relate it to pool. I am not impressed by someone perceived to have a lot of gamble who is always broke, probably has chopped people up to get some money, and has to be staked to play a $40 tournament. I think it is hilarious how they are given respect for gambling their last dollar on a game of pool or in a machine.

I know we have a "gambler" here that is allergic to his money and I am sure every pool hall or city has some. He will lose all he has and is 95% of the time staked in games / tournaments. He / They also have the audacity to think the stake horses who won't pay 50% or put them in tough games where they are making a 50/50 bet but with odds against them on the money because of the jelly are Nitty!

So on this thanksgiving I am thankful for my awesome family ,good friends, my ability to make my own choices on when, where, and how much I bet. And the knowledge that even if I lose some cash it won't affect my family. A respected member on here told me things are awful now and it is just nickels trying to be quarters. Well that is where I fit in. $50-$500 bets and no regrets. Thank god we do have some nits like me or else the gamblers would have no one buying players in calcuttas or staking them in tournaments.

Would you rather be a nit with money or a broke gambler begging for backer and being called a degenerate, idiot, bad match up guy etc....Happy Thanksgiving!!

I need to stop sending money to you.

Happy Thanksgiving.

My wife thinks you are the girl in your avatar and we have a kid together which is why I send you so much money every week. I use her paypal which is tied to her email so every monday morning I have the same conversation. yes babe I do win sometimes and no I did not father a child on a pool trip.

Yes, I'd rather be a nit with money. Good post, thanks, Happy Thanksgiving to you and family!

Gamble

There's a difference between being a bit nitty and a stone cold lock artist. Myself I like booking winners with good customers...guys who can lose a couple hundred and not lose their minds.

The true nits at pool are the ones who claim to want to gamble, but wanting nothing to do with any game that is remotely fair (they just want games where the can steal as much as possible as quickly as possible) and then complain when no one wants to partake of their "gambling".

For anyone that hasn't figured it out, gambling at pool is complete and total waste of time. Want to make money gambling? switch to poker, being just a good poker at almost any given level will provide decent income...and the only reason to complain there is if the poker room isn't open 24/7.

nit

I think it is really funny when some ahole that no one likes nor wants to gamble with can't get a game and calls everyone nits because they won't play.

Also we had a guy in the action room that was going off and betting a lot. Everyone was talking about how great of action he was. Then he got a d-dub and disappeared airing the whole room. I won't mention his name because he eventually came back and paid off. But once again very funny the line between being great action and a freaking loser betting money they don't have. Another guy with gamble on here recently couldn't pay off because his car got repo'd.

I'd rather gamble with a nit.

I think the biggest nits are people that won't play same game they are winner at within a certain time frame or won't allow loser to raise the bet. Also maybe Someone who is big winner on a an out of line game and won't adjust at all.

can't completely follow some of the complaints in this thread, but I can tell you it's near impossible to make an even game in a poolhall. In fact, I've given up trying. If I feel like playing, I'll play someone's ridiculously lopsided (in their favor) game. Trying to outrun the nuts is a challenge and that's more fun than a lock anyway....unless you a) depend on earnings from pool to live on or b) you're "that guy" who needs to show that they can make lock matches.

In most cases a nit=someone that won't let you steal from them. Happy Turkey Day All. Johnnyt
