no ferrule

i have played with a new cue made from an old late 1800's ebony into straight grain maple now for about two weeks. members of the forum have given me advice as how to install a tip with no ferrule, and some were even kind enough to give me a few free pads. i am very happy with the way the cue feels to me, solid but not harsh. i also believe [ might be just in my mind] that i can see where to hit the cue ball better. i.e. white ferrule on white cue ball as to tan [ wood color ] shaft on white cue ball. i doubt if i try to sell many, as i'm having enough trouble convincing people that the wood pin is safe, but i am going to continue to use one on my personal cue. thanks again to everyone for there help. chuck starkey

Thanks for sharing Chuck. How do you (and others who've done this) find the deflection on that setup? Is it comparable to a low deflection shaft i.e. Predator?

my version of a low deflection

i drilled and filled the shaft the shaft, then plugged with a hard maple plug. i need more time to evaluate this experiment, but its been fun so far. chuck

Try carbon.

not good at explaining

what i was trying to say was i drilled the shaft, 4 inches, filled the hole. then i used a 3/4 inch hard maple plug in the end for strength. dont you guys know you are suppose to listen to what i mean, not what i say. chuck

Chuck, if you don't mind me asking.... What did you fill the other 3&1/4 inches of hole in the shaft with?

Great .. when you make me a cue make it no ferrule and low deflection.

Have the Predator police contacted you yet?

Drilling a hole in the end of a shaft for the propose of low deflection is a protected process under their patent ... or so they believe.

They sent Annie-O in Houston, Texas a letter of 'stop doing that'.

You know you're good when you can patent a hole.
