I started coming to la on the regular in 84, but not around Santa Monica area until I moved here in 93. The whole time I lived in Vegas I kept a place here, I just didn’t mention it much.
Never been out there. When i get done with my 'war' i'm comin out. Always wanted to see the place. Rent a car and just get after it.

The food in LA these days sure has slipped last 5 years give or take. LA since 2015/16 has been slipping in general.

$2000 for a seat with a $50 view is about the best I can explain it.
The best food in L.A. is off the beaten path, for sure, these days.

Well my buddy was VP of NBCs Film Division, we use to talk about all the great place to eat all over Los Angeles.

Most of the places we recall as great, are mostly gone.

Today of the Mom & Pop places are history.

Progress?

Is Benji’s in Glendale still there?
Idk.

The best Persian joint is Raffi’s in Glendale. That’s the general consensus. I agree. It’s strong. I go maybe 2 times a year, it’s 45 minutes from me. There was a pool room over that way, no action. I asked if there was action “what’s that?” 2 guys said. I left depressed

Roy Choi. Last I heard he had several trucks plus a Brick & Mortar. He was on Diner, Drive-Ins & Dives. Each night he was in a different location which was announced daily. On the night with Fieri when they arrived at that night's location there were literally hundreds of people waiting.

Really, really sad about House of Billiards! Had my initial lesson with Scott Lee there in the early 90's. Every time I was in LA I would go by to watch the 1 Hole action which was always there day or night. I can't even name a handful of pool rooms in a county of 10 million. SAD.

Property tax is not the reason, it’s high.
Positives for Texas:

Business friendly.
NO INCOME TAX.
Property taxes are not terrible compared to other places.
We shut down a lot during Covid peak times but now we are almost entirely back to normal compared to some places.
Solid willing work force.
Jobs can be found unlike in other places now!
In the big cities there are a lot of well educated folks!
We get some winter but it is not terrible like up north.- severe thunderstorms/hail can be an issue on occasion.

It evens out. I know quite a few that have moved there and all said that there are other taxes and that they pay roughly the same overall. Prop tax in Tx is three time what it is here in Ok. A LOT of loony leftys are moving here. Yeehaw.
