No slop 9 ball or 10 ball ?

Sorry about all my whining

But I say pool should be a game of skill not luck and I have seen far to many ball bangers slamming balls around hoping to get lucky ! I say if you want win on luck then roll the dice or play the slot machines or maybe the lotto . I like the game and have spent a lot of time working on improving my skills and just hate to see it turn into a game of luck .

What would be next, asking people to call balls on the break?

in 14.1... that IS the rule which moves us on to the safety break... strategy concoctions.. that go on forever..

I personally would like to see 15 ball rotation... 1,2,3 balls on the corners.. call shot...

that format will separate the balls from the bangers in a hurry...

you don't have to be a good player to win money at pool...

dollar count does not equal talent... never has...

people bet high because they can...

a dollar sign has never once put a ball in a pocket...

money pressure has lost farrrrrr more games than it has ever won....

fill a stadium with all the rich retired pool hustlers......

fill a theater???

fill a gas station???

Fill a car???

so much for that strategy..

EDIT:.. I gave it a spell check

I want to win with skill as well and I don't like to get beat on a lucky shot but I know thats the game, I am just saying that there is a lot more luck involved in the game besides lucking a ball in, what about getting shape a different way than how you had pictured. Or the little nudge off an object ball you didnt intend to bump and it helps you get shape, ect.ect.... I would love to play just about anyone with my above mentioned challange, if they cant call everything its ball in hand for me. Nate

We used to play call the pocket for your next shot, also if you don't pocket the ball opponent gets BIH, if you play this you'll understand the quoted post. Luck is a factor in most games, (IE basketball, football, golf even games that take little expertise, dice etc.) The better player usually gets the better rolls. When your opponent gets lucky and quits, he knows your the better player.Toughen up, maybe next time you'll get winner and the guy'll have a harder time quiting.(maybe not playing races)

You're not going to remove all the luck from the game by banning slop. However, by banning slop from rotation games, you are going to eliminate some exciting and skillful two-way shots because you are only allowed to call one ball per shot. That price is way too much to pay, IMO.

Slop!

Im going to bed thanks to everyone who has posted in this thread so far .
I appreciate your opinions and look forward to reading this thread tomorrow .

Good Night !

Larry

Great thread Larry, I hate slop in pool it is something that is amazingly allowed. I can see it in golf LOL!! One thing that comes to mind is carom pool when a player slops a point they always apologize to the opponent, yes play continues but just the acknowledgement of the fact is enough..

I was just going to let this go, but the ignorance of this post inspired me. First, you talk about 14.1, which has only been dead for what, 25 or so years? Then, you imply that people who play for a living have money, and in the next breath, talk about wealthy retired players not existing? For the record, playing at ALL is because you love it, and if you lay for a living you must love it even more, because there is NO MONEY in it. I guess I will just dream of having 10 guys like you in every pool room, so I could make a COMFORTABLE living. Good luck in your next call-shot 10 ball tourney. I am officially done with this thread.

On a bar table, there isn't a choice. On a regular table, it depends what rules you play by. The book of rules published by the American Billiards Congress states that you call the ball and call the pocket. So if you slide it down a rail and pocket it, that counts. An if it kisses another ball and goes in, that too counts. And if you call a corner pocket, miss it so bad that it goes four rails and in, that will count. Them's the rules and it saves many, many arguments to play this way. That's been my experience.

Over time, I think the slop evens out, but some players do seem luckier than others.

What is American Billiard Congress?
