Non-Layered Tips

Old School.
Reduces mushrooming and is similar to pressing in a vice.
I know another old timer that was once as good at 9 ball as anyone in the world, and he did the same thing. He also used contact cement for gluing tips, and bouncing the cue on the tip could have helped the glue bond.

The old timer that told me about bouncing the tip also suggested I use contact cement.

I'm thinkin the old time contact cement worked way better than today.
Regulations prevent making contact cement that actually works for this purpose.

How so?

Any top pros using non layered, if so whom?
Not looking for a pro that's $elling/Endor$ing merchandise.

A personal choice.
Sky & John S. were using techno dud which is not layered. Honestly there are so many good layered tips on the market now. The Ko brother’s tip is my favorite at the moment not just cause my fave pro Mickey Krause likes it. Kamui black soft is ok, G2 medium is ok, etc. Even Predator’s victory is fine.

Yes and probably some of the best pool ever played... Guy
GM.... here's the elephant in the room.

Why is it that ''layered'' are needed ''at all'' when it was not that way before.

(Newer cloth/wool/worsted? variants/slippery).

I think the need of more tip/grip to the cue ball is a must.... because the current play conditions create more ball/rotation ''slippage''.... thus more cue ball churn/spin is needed after contact because your cue ball is slippin'.
I'm often impressed, how some players get 3' of draw with a soft swing. Tho new cloth/balls do help ALLOT. :)
The medium directs the players actions and mfg follow suit.

I tried em. It's what JJ said he was using. I gave em a try and moved on.

Hmm. No idea why I would want to mess with contact cement. I've found a microdab of either Loctite or Gorilla superglue gel, estimated amount about 0.1 g, allows me to put the tip on, move it slightly if I didn't have it right where I wanted, press on it for about 15 seconds and let it set up. Never had a tip come off, and I leave these in public venues where they are at best, only abused lightly.
