i want to get a cue made this coming year .. i know the basic color and such i want but i do not know the wood names to ask for, so i figure this would be the best place to post the question and find out ...

just a basic 2 peice cue ... that has the normal 4 points (basically a house cue design) but instead of the brown / tan .. i want one that is a black colored wood ... that has a purple line breaking it up for the spliced area ...

what two woods would that be? or how would i go about asking for that? ...

I think you want ebony and purple heart

If you are wanting black handle and points into normal white colored wood with a purple line between black and white you want ebony into maple with a purple veneer.

ok thanks! that describes it ... i want Ebony into Ebony with a purple veneer ... that was simpler then i thought ...

NO!

Ebony into MAPLE with a purple venner! Unless you want the entire forearm to be black with only one purple line ( veneer) separating them.

okay, the part about you mentioning a house cue with black wood instead of brown is what made me think you wanted maple.

sounds like you got it!

no problem, yeah i was kinda confused at first and only could think of a house cue design to explain what i wanted.

Just so you know, that cue would have to be cored in the middle. Ebony is a pretty heavy wood, and usually has to be cored to get the right weight and balance. That is why you most often see it in the rear of the cue only.

No big deal, just thought I would mention it.

I believe what the previous poster was trying to say was that an all ebony cue, non-cored, is gonna be HEAVY...easily pushing the 20+ oz range.

Coring basically means that they core a hole throughout most of, or all, of the length of the cue, and then place a lighter wood, often maple or even purpleheart in the void created by the coring. It allows the maker to lighten the cue's overall weight, while retaining the ebony/ebony combination desired. You would never see the core, except when the cue was disassembled, and then usually at the joint end, inside of the joint itself.

The coring technique is also used when a maker is using woods that are, by themselves, not structurally sound for construction...such as burled woods. It is also used when woods are being used that are more prone to movement...tulipwood comes to mind.

black palm wood is another great choice for a black wood, and know that ebony does not give the liveliest hit.

you could go black palm points with maple/purple/maple/black into a birdseye/curly/or straight grain maple forarm.

The maple veneer would make the purple veneer pop, you could even get a 5 veneer and double up the purple.

I feel like im talking about koolaide

you can do ebony recut into purple heart on a maple forearm.

that was greek to me ...

what i am wanting to end up with is the main part of the cue to be black or a real dark wood ... with where the normal splice line is .. to have about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch purple colored dividing line. and the only light color on the entire cue would be the shaft it's self just to make it easier to replace later if need be...

IDIOTS DELIGHT....call me when you know the weight, length, taper, balance point, tip size handle size but don't call me if you want to tell me what kind of woods you want to use in a cue, even if you know what kinds, rather than just the colors......

yeah thanks for that info. i already know all the other specs of what i am looking for ... don't worry though, i won't call you and bother you with something as simple as a wood name or color .. there are many others out there that i can call.

WOW! That came off as extremely rude! If you are too good to be bothered with something so trivial, why post a response at all? I don't recall the op looking for anything from you in paticular, and am pretty sure that you have made certain that it will stay that way!

I know you are far too important and busy to read this and post a reply, and that is just fine with me:rolleyes: Sorry to have imposed on you, I am not worthy.:embarrassed2:

By the way, is your last name misspelled or is the "e" just silent?

Well, as long as you are going to start calling names, I think you earned yours.
