So, I have been playing for a while and basically know how I will play when I get up.

I played a tourney last weekend, and for the first time ever, I did not scratch on the break for the whole event: 38 break shots. Making balls, spreading good, keeping control or the other guy in the chair.

I am usually good for at least 1 or 2 break fouls in a race to 7...but not this time. (woo-hoo)

Hoping this is an improvement I can maintain.

Good for you !!! I too usually either have a scratch or two, or break dry in a race to (about) 7. Hell, I watched my cueball kiss off of 5 different balls last week and scratch in a corner pocket on the head rail. It's almost always bad luck for me. I rarely scratch in the same pocket so it's not a flaw in my break. The cueball usually gets kicked in by another ball.

I've tried different break cues, different cue ball placement, different break speeds, and different tip placements on the cue ball. I've been to hell and back and for the life of me I can't get a decent, consistent, ball-making (without a scratch) break. I can't tell you how many favors I've given my opponents over the years with my ball-scattering, no balls made breaks that leave easy runouts. I realize that the scratches are mostly bad luck, but balls not falling in after rolling ALL OVER the table??? I can't figure out if that has to do with luck or technique.

I need to buy a book or a DVD on breaking. Any suggestions???

I wish you continued success on your breaks!!!

I too suffer from the ill found effects of breaking and trying everything different. My new style; close eyes, hit ball, hope..

I use the base of the OB as an alignment point and am not shy about moving break spots.

There are other aids, but they are proprietary secrets, soory to say!
