I'm looking for some educated opinions on Nova cues...Overall, how would you rate their playabilty? Is there a production cue you'd compare it to? Any insights would be appreciated.:)

Nova

I have played with a Nova cue for about 4 years now. It was recommended to me thru the owner of the room where I play by Bob Runde. I thought that was a pretty strong recommendation. I believe the cue maker was either afilliated with Schon or Runde or both at some time. I love the cue and believe it plays very similar to a Schon. It looks good, plays well and I am very happy with the cue

Benny,

I think Nova cues are some of the most under rated cues on the market right now! I have used one for several years as my playing cue. Thing is, I'm a collector and have a bunch of cues that I could choose from (including a Szamboti, Scruggs, Joss West, etc.), which are all really fine players, but I shoot with the Nova. Nubs Wagner worked for Schon when Bob Runde was with them, and was heavily influenced by him. Nubs was also the first full time employee at Mc Dermott, so he's been around for awhile! His cues hit very much like a Runde, or a Schon with a little more feel. He uses dymondwood inserts on the shafts and it really gives the cue a solid hit. The other strong quality that jumps out at you with Nova cues, is that his hand rubbed finish is tougher than any finish I've ever seen on a cue. I've had mine for six years and have bumped it against the table, other sticks, etc. and never left a ding on the cue. His primary market has always been in Germany, where meticulous attention to detail is the norm. The other thing is that, much to my chagrin, I think Nubs might be done making cues. He moved from Wisconsin to Kentucky, and has shut down his shop completely. He's still toying with the idea of getting back into the biz, but is kind of leaning the other way. Bums me out, because I've been waiting four years + to have him make an ebony and ivory stick for me, and he finally called me a few weeks back and said he probably won't be finishing it anytime soon :( . Anyways, if you couldn't tell, I'm a huge fan, and would highly recommend Nova Cues...

Regards,

Steve

I had a few. They are solid cues, mostly rounded pantograph type of inlays, and they use real ivory, nice tropical woods, etc. I don't think they used any plastic except the buttcap. I think they're all a little longer than usual -59" standard if I recall.

They are unique in the way they play and it's hard to describe, but they are good cues.
