Novelty Cue Question

I recently received a really cool novelty cue. One I had been looking for for a while now. What I was wondering is whether anyone has tried putting a new tip or even ferrule and tip on a novelty cue to get it playing better. It's not like this cue will replace the cue I currently play with but I would like it to play decent for when I use it or my friends use it.

I put a soft Triangle tip on my Budweiser cue and it plays much better.

I have another cue with a bamboo shaft that I replaced the ferrule and tip. It plays MUCH, MUCH better. I think it was made in Taiwan. Just a cheap cue that isn't worth the price of the ferrule and tip replacement, but I did it anyway.

I've re-vamped a few of the novelty cues for the guys that wanted something different. New tip & ferrule is a given.
They can be made to play surprisingly well. Depending on what wood was used for the shaft, either Ramin wood or Maple, will determine the amount of upgrade you'd want. I'd strongly suggest Maple.
If you wanted to get a little more 'trick', a Predator shaft is an option also.
There are a lot of variables involved with this type of conversion.

You get to the point of dimenishing returns. Just for grins I took one of the very cheap Budweiser cues and made a shaft for it. I also replaced the pin with a quality pin in the center of the butt and replaced the black plastic joint collars with black phenolic. The shaft was decent maple with a good ferule and Moori tip.

Too many people snapped to the layered tip, not a good idea on this type of sneaky! Anyway, I proved to myself once and for all that the butt indeed mattered when I did this. It played far better than it did before but it didn't play nearly as well as a quality cue. I'm considering a slick black leather wrap to replace the loose thread wrap on it but I think I have mostly hit the limit of that pulpwood butt to hit decent.
