Now I've Done It

well, i might have learned my lesson tonight. started racking and breaking again tonight, ran a couple of racks in a row early on. went to supper, had a cigar, watched some Cardinals baseball. back to break and rack some more, ran 3 more racks, back up to finish the cigar and some more cardinal baseball.

so i go down about 9:30, and for the next hour or so absolutely no luck whatsoever. never had a shot, had droughts of no balls going in, balls roll into my path, cue ball getting kicked in, etc, etc, etc. i was so mad and frustrated i couldnt hardly see straight. finally after about an hour of this frustration i make 3 balls, and of course, the '5' ball rolls right into the path between the '1' and cue ball.

i couldnt hold it in any longer, and i lost it again, grabbed what was left of the cue i broke, and flung it as hard as i could. wish i wouldnt have done that. it hit my old buddy Tom "Dr. Cue" Rossman's autographed pic that i had in a glass frame and broke it, pieces of glass went everywhere. i had to spend a long time cleaning up glass, and running the vacuum. managed to even cut myself ever so slightly a couple of times.

hopefully i've learned my lesson now.
i just hope and pray one of these days i will quit going through those long streaks of not having any chance of running out. i take this game oh so very seriously, have a burning desire to get better, and this crap frustrates the living sh-- out of me. seems like it just goes on and on and on and on and on and on. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

You, my friend, need to take a break from it if it makes you that upset. Also, this is just a practice game so why allow yourself to even become that angry? Pool is just this way, sometimes you will have shots and make them all and other times there will seem to be nothing. Nothing you can really do about it but to accept and go with it. Getting yourself to the point of damaging your own things is just not a smart thing. The nest time you get that old feeling just stop and ask yourself why did that happen, if you honestly do not know then just accept that shit happens and move on.

I see no problem with that, the Joss hadn't come in yet so at least it wasn't the new cue. Did you at least have enough sense and presence of mind to make sure it was the Cuetec?

drivemaker, you crack me up, and that's saying a lot, because not many people in my 43 years, can do that to me. anyhow, hey, look, listen stop, think, you said you ran racks, then nothing, what do you want? life isn't always great, be glad you ran racks, and keep cool. i used to play in a 9-ball tournament here in new york, and the other great player besides myself (oh, what an ego maniac) anyway, was a player named kenny Mckentyre, he was a great, great shooter. once in a while things didn't go his way, and he'd break his cue. he ended up with 30 different crappy orchid cues, why? couldn't handle himself. it's a pitty. life is to be enjoyed, not annoyed, go with the rolls. when they are going with you, enjoy, stay out of your own way. when they are going against you, be patient, sip diet pepsi with lemons and limes, watch your opponent, make the wrong decisions, and await, your return arrivial to the table. to view this in real life, i suggest you watch allison fisher behave, she is the perfect human speciman for this, calm cool patient and collected.

Hey...Protege did something bad, something that had to be embarrassing to him, but had the nerve to tell all of us about it when he knew that he would be chastised and pounded, yet he was still seeking advice. So here's my take on it. You obviously have a very bad control problem. I think you now realize it but don't quite know what to do about it. See, when you're trying to throw that sidearm curveball, you can't hold onto it too long with a tight grip, otherwise, you'll pull everything and take things out on the left side of the room if you're a righty, and on the right side if you're a lefty. Loosen your grip and just let it slide off of your fingertips and you'll be a lot more consistent in finding the zone. Oh yeah, almost forgot, you can't throw too hard. Watch your speed or else your timing will be off. I also think you might have gotten some old cigars that affected you. You might think about not smoking them at all on the days you know you're going to be on the mound. Has to do with oxygen depletion or something. Hope that helps.

I love it! Hilarious! See Protege, this is the kind of sense of humor that you need. If you can't laugh at yourself, you're in trouble. By the way "running a few racks" is pretty damn respectable in nine ball, don't take it too seriously!
Peace,
David

Get a punching bag dude... Seriously... It saved my walls too many times... Pretty good workout as well..

Hmmmm, did you every consider playing with rubber balls and a rubber cue in a padded room with no windows or other breakables???? Just a thought. ;-)

why all the anger

dude its all about ying yang. havent you noticed when your feeling good things go your way, then all of a sudden things go down hill and so does your attitude. all your doing is digging yourself into a bigger hole. dont get me wrong ive been there myself and through watching the better players ive learned that you gotta stop and think about what your doing and how your doing it. of course anybody would go crazy if the did the same thing over and over and over and got the same result, you got to change it every once in a while. if you put all your efforts in your game as you seem to do by the way you tell us you'll get there someday. maybe not tomorrow or next week but you'll get and thats what matters in the long run. so remember yingyand bro, catch the good stuff and dont let it go..........

You inadvertently got rid of your problem, you destroyed the signed picture of a trick shot specialist with barely master level pool skills. Now don't put any more pictures of anyone on your wall and don't ask for any more autographs unless they are signing over the deed to their car after you broke them. Unless you figure out that you don't want to be a fan but an equalt to the other top players in the game you are lost. This was a blessing in disguise.

PS: Emotion is a killer in pool. You don't want positive or negative emotion, you want to be cold and strictly business and completely apathetic. Get that going and it becomes a zone where the game just flows.

Dr Cue has barely master level pool skills?
have you ever seen this guy play?
he loves what he does, traveling around and doing his shows. however, if he took 6 months off, did nothing but practice a bunch each and every day, this man would be an outstanding player.

good enoug for Earl? Efren? Nick? Johnny? Bustamante?
nope, but then again, who is.

Ohhh-ohhh...now look what you guys have gone and done...you've REALLY pissed Protege off by knocking his all time hero and idol. Anything we said about him yinging and yanging his cue like the town dunce had no affect at all. But don't fuck with Dr. Cue...that is strictly off limits!

BTW Protege, you never said what cue you mangled. Was it the Cuetec? If so, go have another cigar and a double shot of tequila on me.

Come on guys, don't be too hard on him. These stories are becoming very entertaining. I do hope he eventually gets a grip on his anger problem though.. Sam

No but seriously, Rossman is a master level player in the BCA and he has never managed to do much at all from what I have seen. Barely make the money a couple times, not the kind of guy I would be hanging on my wall and trying to emulate unless I wanted to be a trick shot artist and not a pool player. The guy is a great talker, great showman, great at trick shots, and pretty bloody unimpressive at pool. While he does his shows in Vegas there are probably 50 guys in the room that would own the guy for the cash at any given moment. So I say again, congrats DrCueProtege, you have taken the frist step, the glass is toast, next time if your aim is again true perhaps it can go clean through the picture and rid you of him for good. You will not be rid of your terrible luck until you remove Tom from the wall, he is jinxing you with his evil smile as you break and get screwed again and again and again. One of your really long runs of bad luck one of these days that picture is going to burst out laughing. Just remember, aim, follow through, and drive that cue clean through ole laughing Tom.

I would have to disagree with any of the posters who think Tom Rossman can't play. I was fortunate enough to play some 8-ball with him on a super tight 9 foot Diamond. He ran out 3 times in a row, the last game he insisted on driving the cue ball 5 cushions into the hanging 8 ball. I wouldn't suggest playing him for money unless you are a world beater. I didn't see any difference between his game and the players at the DCC. On a different note, I thought his trick shot show was funny as hell.

While Tom is not a world beater, He's a pretty good player overall. He has a massive amount of knowledge about the physics of pool that most players never stop to think about. He is one of the nicest people in pool and is always willing to answer questions for anyone. I have never heard him utter a bad word about anyone and that is rare in the pool world. We all have our areas of excellence, our games that we prefer. I don't know how well any of you guys play overall, but I'll venture to say you won't get close to beating him at his chosen game. I'll also bet you don't devote much time to helping others learn. So in my book, Tom Rossman is a WORLD CLASS POOL PLAYER and a WORLD CLASS PERSON. Sam

amen Satman and Willie.
he's been down to my place on December 26 the last 6 years in a row. he doesnt give individual lessons anymore, just groups. he didnt have to come down this past holiday, but he did.

Steve Orner (Orner Billiards) once made the comment "People like Rossman are what the sport is all about"

i couldnt agree more.
