This guy has an incredible "photoblog" going, and most of it centers around the pool/social life at Amsterdam, also covering other areas of the NYC area.

If you surf this website for a couple of hours, you'll be packing your bags tomorrow.

...man, i got up with great intentions of going to work early, i started browsing through this guys website - WOW! he must put so much time and effort into that. maybe i'll see some people i recognize on there when i get the chance to go through it a little more..
i've only skimmed through one or two months of the blog archive - do all those ladies play at Amsterdam?? Jeeeeeeez!

Oh, and it wasnt Darren Appleton. I didn't click that the person meant THE Darren Appleton. lol.

the guy I shot with didnt hustle me. far from it. he was very up front and seemed that he figured he was a very average player. he admitted he rarely ever gambled, and when he did it was for 20/40 bucks per race to 9. he was happy to shoot around with us long before gambling was mentioned and i figured i had ample opportunity to analyze his game before we gambled, and it was i who offered to gamble i admit.
when we got into it in the first set, it's not like he suddenly became Ralf or Mika now that there was money at stake. he just shot very solid and very consistent.
like i mentioned before, losing the cash didnt so much trouble me. it was cash i had won earlier that weekend, and i did make most of it back the next day.
i just got curious to the skill level thing - as most B players where I shoot wouldnt have made some of the decisions he did at the times he did.
i did make some mistakes during the set, same way he made some mistakes, but in all honesty he took advantage of my mistakes and i couldnt fault the guy for that. i think that the fact he was a very solid shooter, made good decisions and was completely un-nerved by the fact i was an A player that took me by surprise.

Hot chicks or not?

.

I stumbled onto that site about 6 months ago and thought, "this guy sould be the ambassador of pool!".

I've really got to take a trip to NYC and meet him. I really think he must have a camera implanted in his forehead.

So what did you think about the original question? Hot chicks or not?

Robbiecolt- where in upstate NY you from? If your close enough I'll shoot some with you.

definitely...there are no shortage of hot chicks.

that guy keeps a great website i have to say. i can see my day will not be very productive! next time i'm in the city i will have to come hang at amsterdam during league night, seems like it might be worth it ;)

That's per team.

It's not even that... that's almost certainly a fine photoshopping effort by Mr. Fuentes :p.

Not sure exactly what 5th-8th would pay, but I think first place is either $5,000+vegas airfare or $2,500+plus vegas airfare.

Like I said before, verrrryy smoothhh.

THere is another Brit, named Darren, who played in the Team9 league. i believe that he moved back to the UK not too long ago, but comes back to the states on occasion.

It is my understanding that New York city`s rating system is very modest/humble.NYC`s B players are equal to 'A' players in other parts of the country.in some rare occasions even C + players of NYC are equal to A - players in other parts of USA.

Very true- when i was a D/C Player i drilled a B player from VA at QMasters during the Open one year.

nice one! you play in the same 9ball league at Amsterdam?

maybe i just took it for granted that as we were from the same state the skill levels would be the same as i experience upstate, or even in CT or MA.
it sounds like amsterdam runs a pretty competitive league though, especially if you are drilling players 1/2 skill levels above you!!

I only played in the leagues one season. Not to mention, I probably played above my norm vs that VA guy. I was on that night for once.

Part of the problem relates back to the first Tri State Tour where there were only clssses A B and C. No Pro no Open but everyone was allowed to play and just about everyone got their home room to vouch for their speed which was almost always one level down from where they truly should have been. The great players were A's, the very good shortstop players 'B' eg Johnny B, Gypsy, Sly whatever his last name were all B's and good shooters who run out often were 'C's. I once watched the finals of a 'C' tournament in the Tri State and between the two players there were 4 misses in a race to 7. Over the years the 'classes' were made a bit more fair and accurate with the addition of the Open and Pro class but the C players were not effected as much as the A's and some B's.

The remants of this rating system are still around and somewhat responsible for the 'under rating' of players compared to the rest of the Country imo.
