ob 1 and tips

I hope this is the correct place for this thread. I have an ob-1 and love it to death. Not going to go over all reasons why. My friend also has an ob-1. We changed the tip on it today with a triangle tip. I had a sniper tip med but it felt hard as hell. I don't want to change the feel of the shaft at all. I am assuming that changing the tip will change that feel. I was wondering if anyone has tried any different tip ob-1 combinations? Also why does it seem like the sniper med. and a wizzard med seem twice as hard as the triangles that I have? Thanks

I stuck a Triangle on my OB-1

I have an OB-1 that came with the standard Everest tip. I didn't use the shaft much as I didn't like the sound of the hit with that tip. I took off the Everest tip and saw that there was a tiny area under the tip where the tip was not firmly glued to the ferrule. I had some Triangle tips laying around, so I put one on the OB-1. I just came home from the pool hall where I played about 2.5 hours with the OB-1 on a Troy Downey butt. It played great and sounded/felt solid as a rock. No problems whatsoever. I like the feel and hit of the shaft better with the Triangle, but it is, of course, always a matter of personal preference.

I use......

I've got a pressed Porper 11 layered water buffalo tip that has a softer hit than the everest that was origianlly on it. It in IMHO hits a whole lot better with a softer tip. Should try it

When I bought my OB1 a couple of years ago, it had their stock Talisman Medium tip on it. While I would get plenty of action I just didn't like the feel. Subjectively it felt DEAD or no feedback (at least to me). As such I just stuck with my stock shaft.

In the interim I did try different things to improve the hit for me.

1. I cut the installed tip in half. That improved things.

2. I replaced the tip with a SuperPro. Way too hard and I like hard tips.

3. I replaced the tip with a Hercules medium and it is now working better for me.

I spoke with Royce in Vegas and I know there are plenty of threads about the subjective OB1 feel. I will admit I never gave it a fair chance. I may go ahead and pull it back out and give it a fair shot.

The thing is when I tried the demo shafts in Vegas they were great. I just figured that the difference was the tip had hardened from use. Once I can obtain that feel I will definitely give the OB1 a fair shake......

Also for one of the other posters, it sounds like you are missing the carbon fiber pad.

Yeah it's always a matter of opinion. What's medium to me may not be medium to you and whatever I like in a shaft someone else won't. I love my ob1 just the way it is, but it could always be better. I think when its time to replace the tip I am gonna go with everest or a soft tip. I'm gonna throw this sniper on my other shaft and see how it plays.

Ob-1

My favorite shaft is an OB-1 with a Sniper tip! I own regular shafts, predator shafts, and 2 OB-1 shafts and one of the 2 OB-1 shafts feels the best to me. I bought it second hand on AZ and it came with a Sniper tip and i'm sold on OB-1 shafts with Sniper tips after playing with this shaft for a while.

I'm with James here...

I have both an OB-1 and an OB-2 with Snipers on both...

I love them both...

I have 2 OB-1 shafts. One has the Sniper Med and the other has a Morri Med.

I can't really tell them apart as far as tips, one is 3/8-10 and the other is a Radial joint. The radial has a softer feel

Just as a friendly reminder to all the OB-1 users out there.

Make sure, when you are retipping, to leave the Carbon Fiber Pad in place when removing the old tip. OR, if you do take it off, contact us for another one.

See our retipping instructions on our website!

Thanks for the reminder Royce. Before I did anything I went to the ob-1 web site and read the retipping section. I recomend it to anyone who hasn't changed a tip on an ob-1 to go and read the info in the ob-1 web site.

hm does that mean I need to find a shop around here that has installed tips on OB cues before so they don't mess it up?
