I am a local repairman and wannabe cue maker. I have a ob1 shaft that I want to change the ferrule to. I can change it myself by I have some questions. Being a wood ferrule an me never messing with a ob before is there anything I should be worried about. Is there anything special under that wood ferrule?
The ferrule that is currently on now does not have a pad on and it's I bad condition. I want to put a juma on.

Any help greatly apreciated

Have you looked on OB's website?
I happen to know they have info on replacing and repairing their ferrules.
You will, of course, lose any warranty and much of the LD properties by pursuing the course you have described.
My 2 cents,
Gary

I had a guy give me one to make a break shaft. I cut the ferrule off and drilled out the end of the shaft and put in a tenon. Then I installed a phenolic combo break tip. It worked great.

Warranty officially void...................

that's crazy....don't butcher that shaft.
Go to OB website and the recommended installation is given. They will sell the ferrules, fiber pads and carbon fiber pads, also.
When cue repairmen butcher and Gerry rig, it keeps me working!

When it comes to $150 + shafts, if you don't know what your doing and are not deemed qualified from the manufacturer, then you should send it to someone that is, as this will keep the warrentee intact, and you don't have to replace the shaft if you F'' it up.
What you describe is going to void the warrentee, and the fact that you don't know how to proceed with replacing the existing ferrule with the proper one, means the customer will get back a shaft that will not perform the same. That shaft wasn't made to have a juma ferrule...it was made to have the type that is currently on it. My advice is to send it back to OB and have it done correctly, no offence meant. If they are the original owner, and have the receipt, so much the better.

Thanks Dave but the shaft is mine and I am not the first owner of the cue. Who ever had this shaft before me really abused it because the carbon fiber pad is gone and the shaft has dings. Shoots great but I feel it could shoot better on e the ferrule is restored to original form. I don't have money to send it in now now that is why I am looking to do the work myself if possible. I have changed countless ferrules before but only the traditional kind where there is a tenon or I cut a tenon, or drill and make a tenon. I like the feel of the shaft so I don't want to change it to much.

Here are the instructions about ferrule replacement. We do have tenons on all our cue shafts, but they are different sizes depending on which shaft you have. Basically, you turn away the old ferrule until you reach the tenon. Then bore the ferrule to fit the tenon and glue in place. It's really easy.

Just call the shop for the ferrules. Anyone who answers can get you to the right person to help you. We don't list them on the site because we restrict their sale to replacements on our cue shafts only. Also, make sure you get some carbon fiber pads too.

I just re-read my post and realized I left out the link to our ferrule replacement instructions. Sorry!
