I have an OB-1 for my Schon, and it's about 10 to 20 mil over sized. I'm kinda particular about my equipment and it bothers me!:D Has anyone turned down an OB-1?....should I be concerned?

yes I could have put this in the ask the whoever thing, but I'll get a better response here!

thanx, Gerry

you mean at the Joint? you can feel the shaft isnt flush with the joint, right?

Im sure this can be fixed, you will proboly have to send the butt and shaft to have it matched perfect.

I did indeed have my ob-1 turned down to about 12.1mm (now is probably closer to 12mm). I talked to Royce Bunnel about it, and he said that he would try to stay above 12mm as the layered maple ferrule is very thin-walled (as Varney has commented on in the past).

So yes, you can turn it down, just don't go beyond 12mm and DO NOT EVER try to use as a break cue after turning down. At least I wouldn't

He's talking about matching the joint end to his Schon...not retapering.

Its a quick fix for any competent cuemaker.
Glue gun? Shoot some glue on the Schon's collar, spin it when hard. Polish with tung oil. DONE!

Is that how you do it? I never knew that.. :p I thought you just cut the shaft collar down to meet the joint...lol

Speaking Ob-1 shafts. I have had one for couple months and it started making a funky noise when I shoot with it recently. Was wondering if anyone else had this happen? It doesn't do it all the time, but now and then it kinda 'clicks'. I checked, can't find any cracks/problems along shaft or ferrule, tips on tight ect.

If the shaft looks perfect, are you certain the noise is coming from your shaft specifically? I'm assuming you've tried putting on a different shaft for comparison, but if not, you might want to check other things such as the tightness or your weight bolt (if applicable) or the rest of your cue.

I'm assuming you mean 0.10-0.20mm oversized? 10-20mm oversized is 0.394-0.787" oversized... That's pretty big!

The CF pad is prob. about to come off. mine already popped off and a friend of mines pad flew off too the other day. ridiculous to me. they make a good shaft but it looks like they hardly use much glue on the pad to the ferrule.

yea James, I come from a plastics manufacturing background, thats why I used the term "mil" or .001 of an inch...

I just went out and put a dial caliper on my cue....the butt is .841 and the OB-1 shaft is .849 at the collar. So it's 8mil over...times 2 since it's round :D but thats about what I thought it was over.

Thou (unit of length)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A thou, also known as a mil, is a unit of length equal to 0.001 inches (a "milli-inch"). It is sometimes used in engineering and in the specification of:

the thickness of items such as paper, film, foil, wires, paint coatings, latex gloves, plastic sheeting, and fibers; and
manufacturing dimensions and tolerances.
The older name mil originated in the United States, with the alternate thou being used in Britain. As the metric system became more common in the States, use of the term mil began to decline among technical users due to the possible confusion with millimeters.[1][2] However, the mil is still in common use in the United States for the thickness of plastic sheeting or bags.
